@visual stirrup Yes hahaha i personally despise the symmetrical maps /the maps with a lot of rectangular spaces as well, but it does make it a lot harder and awkward to design spaces imo. I had the same problem as you before with the eastern side of my island becoming very squeezed (idk if you can tell in the original map) which is why i ended up redoing it. Honestly, if you don't want to work with it seeing as it's such a pain then just get rid of it, but if you're willing to work with it i'd keep it, perhaps just move it a little or make the river thinner

@glad patrol I was really really unhappy with my entrance being so tiny until I totally cliffed off the resident services so I couldn't see it, so maybe try that and see if that inspires you... as soon as I did that, the rest fell into place within a couple of hours! Just had to think across and up instead of building back directly into the plaza 😄

@torpid shard when I terraform I do spots sections at a time. I found it a bit difficult to start completely over for myself. Its too much room to play with I get overwhelmed. I moved all my trees, shrubs & flowers in one corner of my island and the beaches while I terraformed sections

i'd keep thinking in complimentary colors @woven drift , i am doing blue/white for the bottom half of my island and it's working pretty well. just make sure you utilize customizing all furniture so you can really make an impact with colors, it's a game changer

and yeah @brittle crescent maybe make it less squared off though and make larger and smaller patches of dirt to give it some dimension and depth

I think the first step is to figure out what exactly you want to fit into that area, then try to roughly designate space for each one

then after that, start building whichever one is the biggest and adjust accordingly
