Ah I see! I did start at the end of March anyway so it's just a few days ahead from when i originally started. I just really dont want to spend another year before cherry blossom comes back and theres no guarantee we will get the same DIYs next time around. Could be a new set for all I care.

@slate granite so.. this is pretty hard situation. i haven’t seen what else is around that path so idk if it will work but if it’s possible to add an incline around that area. paths changing usually look better if there’s an incline or bridge in between them but if a bridge doesn’t look good you could try an incline. again ik this might not work depending on your layout. goodluck!!

Looking for advice by someone who has experience with tearing their whole island down and "starting fresh" - how long did that process take you? I'm so unhappy with my island that I'm not really enjoying the game anymore but I don't know if the time and the effort would be worth it, any advice on that?

@woven drift I'm someone who flattened their whole island and then tried for 3 weeks to create anything remotely good looking. I ended up resetting my game. This is not my advice to you. But if you really lack the creativity to come up with something entirely new then it's an option I'd consider before you quit for good. I personally was ready to quit at that point of 3 weeks with no progress. Had lost all motivation and stuff so I restarted last night.

As far as just unhappy with your current layout. I advice against flattening the whole island. Unless you are incredibly creative. Tearing it down only takes a few hours if you put your head to it. Coming up with a new design idea is the bigger problem. I'd only clear out small patches at a time and rebuild them to your liking.

@woven drift the advice I've seen and recieved when thinking about redoing an island is to avoid razing it entirely. Like the other posters have said, it can be extremely overwhelming and discouraging to deal with. I would plan out what you want on a design app or paper, and try and work on smaller projects. That way you can take breaks to enjoy finished areas until you feel ready to tackle the next one.

@woven drift I'm aware of that but that wasnt what I was getting at. I cleared my whole island. Every tree and flower I filled in all the rivers and tore down every cliff. I had an empty map and 0 idea or plan on what I wanted to do and every idea I had eventually got scratched because I didnt find it good looking to myself. I'm not about the whole comparing yourself to others stuff but if you cant even make something that you like yourself and you're stuck like that for 3 weeks then it may be just time to come to terms with the idea of having F*ed up your island

I always get very upset when ppl come to ask for advice and there are some ppl who instantly suggest to flatten everything and start on an empty canvas because more often than not this is bad advice and will result in the person looking for advice be overwhelmed and demotivated. Not everyone is super creative or skilled. And for some ppl working with an empty canvas is very hard or an obstacle they cant overcome.

@woven drift I spent two whole days moving all the buildings and hybrids I had to my beaches as well as completely flattening my island and erasing the paths.

I was insanely inspired to do all of this but ran out once I had about only a sixth of my entire island fully decorated. I got discouraged and stopped playing for a few days just trying to rack up ideas, planning, and finding new motivation and inspiration.

I ended up doing one small area at a time until I was satisfied with it rather than a whole plot of land all at once. Whenever I’d be lacking I’d revisit the few spots that I had just made and get going again.

It is a HUGE project, especially depending on how elaborate with details you want to be with each block of your land. Staying on this channel definitely helped with motivation with everyone posting and sharing similar struggles and little victories at a time. Good luck!

@woven drift One thing to keep in mind is that Waterfalls will lag the game out if you have a lot of them. That, and the game just naturally lags by itself, especially if you have an older model of switch, or a switch lite. I'm in the former camp (bought my switch a month after launch), and I get some performance issues as well.

@somber girder I also have the plaza really close to my airport, currently i have very very small waterfalls on either side of the entrance, but when i finally get over to picking up all the diy's on the floor around the area i'll probably replace it with a waiting area for the airport

@hollow prism try and use a lot of the log and stone DIYs, often I use the log stakes instead of fences. I would maybe put up small cliff formations with trees and flowers to create visual interest. And custom design paths are your best friend.
