@rugged rain I'm particularly unhappy with my map too (double south river mouths) and struggling a lot with design ideas. If you have a set theme in mind I would move everything to the beach and then build piece by piece. I worried a lot about mountain/river shapes myself but I decided I'm just gonna build areas and then see about wrapping/weaving mountains and river into the scenery

Honestly the solution to feeling super unhappy with your map for me was just. Spending time with my villagers. Cause ultimately the game is about making a good life for them, and spending more time with them made me want to build a better place for them, not for me and not to erase them all to start over

@rugged rain the key is realizing, every island is individual! Basing yours off of other people will make you copy them, which in the end, wont make you happy. The point is for it to be your own!

To me personally terraforming was a overwhelming thing and I flattened my whole island as I got it then struggled for 2 weeks with design ideas and execution (I'm so bad at terraforming). Now I just went with full square cliffs and building out the areas I have ideas for. Later i will see how i can bring cliffs and rivers into the deal xD

The problem with double south is that it's so close to left and right beach that the side space is extremely limited. Also my airport is rather close to river mouth and rs giving me so limited space to make like a cliffside kind of entrance. Double south with wrong locations for rs and airport can really suck if you planned to go with a natural theme and figure you just havent got enough space where you need

@rugged rain do consider maybe not connecting your river mouths with each other but instead turn one of them into it's own lake or pond kind of thing. It does open up space too. Or consider mirroring your design idea the other way around. I wouldn't give up a 2 months long progress especially if you've been playing legit.

I would just build out the areas you have ideas for and weave the rest of the terrain into it. Currently my island is just square cliffs. Everything super straight. I'll worry about shaping later

@rugged rain you dont lose that much space from the peninsula. It actually has an ideal location to make a stargazing area out of it. Consider spacing out your villagers a bit rather than sticking them all together. This allows you more individuality to design their yards etc. You could fit 2 on the small piece of land between beach and airport and then scatter the other 8 around the map in tiny groups of 2-3.

I find that gathering inspiration images and then practicing by trying to recreate the bits you like can be helpful
Doesn't have to be permanent

Also having the decor I need on hand or in catalog already is really helpful. You can also toy with decorating at Harv's, yes it's indoors but it still gives you an idea

Everything is a square currently. Nothing much to see. I been working on my museum area since yesterday. I flattened everything in the beginning (big regrets here) I struggled coming up with ideas or not liking the ideas I had or finding I couldnt execute them well. In the past 2 weeks my island has gone under several processes to flatten everything over and over if I wasnt satisfied with what I tried. It was emotionally draining and almost drove me to the point of either quitting the game or resetting. Ultimately I ended up designing the areas that I have ideas or visions for but keep everything straight and square for now and then worry about developing the terrain shape later.

@quasi galleon yeah. That's what I'm doing atm. I'll just work areas bit by bit and later shape the terrain around it. I have issues with visualizing my ideas while building. So like I could start terraforming for an idea I have in my head but I cant actually see what it will look like inside my head if its barren and no decoration. This often lead to me giving up on ideas very early into the build. I'm just going with squares for now and shape the terrain out later around what I have. Worst case everything will stay a square. But theres plenty of straight island that look great so mine will eventually too :3

@pine trellis depends on what your plans are. Do you want natural look or symmetrical? Both can look very good. Symmetrical is mostly for extremely practical/efficient layouts. Whereas natural can be chaotic and impractical requiring ppl to search for the way to your shops etc for a while. It's all up to you

@lunar crest there may have been something obstructing their view and hence they didnt spawn. But someone posted a picture here a few times about what obstructs their view or prevents them from spawning, and that a limit per acre is a myth. They can be all in the same. I havent been able to test myself yet mine are currently across 3 acres. But it's been said plenty of times it's a myth

@sinful drift the exact same thing happened for the grand entrance to my museum, i just put down a flower/clover custom path on the ground diagonally(to create a path up towards the grand entrance) and surrounded it with flowers trees etc then started the entrance further up a bit hope that helps 😄
