@lean creek I tried to start with big buildings like the Shops and the museums, and just went from there. Putting villager houses in near proximity to the "hustle and bustle" so nobody was left alone and there would always be room for decoration. I also would recommend coming up with a map plan! There's browser-flash things that can help you come up with a gameplan.

@trail totem first i would group the villagers according to how their houses look and think about how their neighbourhoods would look like in a natural setting. then i would plan those areas. then plan the main areas like the entrance, how it will lead to the different areas of the map, etc

actually i figured, after shifting and redoing my museum SO many times, i realised i HARDLY EVER GO THERE. this is so important. why spend so many resources making the grandest entrance ever to a building i rarely go to? so i chucked it to the side of my island and built a humble entrance and that's the end of my story. moral of the story: plan the rest of your island first. haha

Is there a proper way to make designs do this? I put them on top of brick path and they were perfect squares, then I went to able sisters and overwrote the design with something else and when I came back out it was rounded, but then I went back and changed it once more and we were back to squares
