@soft sparrow sorry it's a bit late but if you do restart just a word of advice - really figure out what you are resetting for. i thought i knew.. i really did, a few times! but in fact i didn't know what i wanted until like 2 weeks of off and on research and some time away from the game. funny enough my double south river dislike turned into what i wanted - and RS being directly (tiled correctly) in front of airport was something i wanted so i ended up with https://streamable.com/4cl6dg < this and i am happy. (if you do something like this make sure it has 5 tiles on each side as i show in the video / the 2 branches are the tiles the doors will be after RS upgrades)

@soft sparrow no problem btw, i know it can be a struggle. i was sorta influenced by some peoples opinions from diff places and figured out i needed a break to collect myself and play some other stuff, my advice is really go out and look at some maps if you don't know what you really like. also think about future proof - 17~ spaces between RS / airport means you can't see RS fully until a few tiles in so i have a lot of creative room if i wanna do something crazy. if i picked a map that was centered but say only 7 tiles away then i'd be more limited to what i could do but alas, it all depends on what -you- want so i hope you find out whatcha want 🙂

I really need help deciding which bridge looks better. Unfortunately I just can get a bird view with imagination because of the cliffs. Had I known this before....
So I attached screenshots from the area without a bridge.
Right now I've got the Zen bridge right in front of the RS but I want to move the bridge diagonal because there was only 4 spaces left between RS and beach and that just didn't look good. But now I can't decide which bridge looks better.

remember also that it is OKAY to take a BREAK if you are getting so frustrated you want to scream. the game is not a race, it's a place to escape, and if it's stressing you out, consider setting it down for a couple of days, or at least not terraforming or decorating.

@magic cape seems like a common trend but not just in this community but everywhere. work towards just enjoying your own island regardless of stuff like but not limited to: being "original" (most times you'll find someone who has the same type of idea as you, somewhere, shrugs but it shouldn't matter cause your version is your own), personal "likes" on a pic you posted on some social media (in fact ask yourself why are you posting it in the first place? not saying it's bad to share your progress or creativity stuff but it's always good to ask why am i doing this). my 2 cents as someone who basically took a break from the game restarted, and realized what i really wanted in my file vs what i -thought- i wanted

@silk steppe few days ago, if you wanna know the process then i did this
- deleted my file after realizing what i got wasn't what i wanted
- looked up a bunch of maps on youtube tours + social media (twitter mainly)
- after i got a ton of inspiration i realized the layout i thought i disliked the most was the one i saved/liked the most (double south rivers)
- also realized i wanted RS to line up with my airport even though i thought i didn't pre-deletation
i think my best advice i could give someone if they did restart is to legit have a plan. if you don't know what you are looking for then you may just repeat the whole process over.

@high ether tbh I had a huge orchard in early game to get money fast, then sized that down, then removed that and just have some fruit trees about and I've been glad from the space I got each time

@timid kernel I feel the same way about the airport. If it doesn't line up I atleast want it in the center or in one of the corners. It's frustrating when it's just placed in some random spot

I'm starting to cut down on flowers, for instance, because they just take up so much space. They're good for filling in spots but having whole flower beds isn't that useful to me

@silk steppe people's opinions are just that, their own opinions. while i think any layout COULD work out and be amazing in it's own way - it doesn't mean every single one of those layouts is your personal taste and it's ok to realize that. some people can make a RS look nice from 4 tiles away, others have theirs in like 50 tiles away to the right and be fine but some others would be bothered by it and can't fully enjoy it. i'm so preachy sorry xP but anyway .. TL:DR - just do what will make you happy after you have a real plan, focus less on what others say and more on what -you- want

If you wanna make something cool with flowers you can make a patterned flower garden, as in a flower garden that resembles something like a character, or maybe just a flower garden that spells out a word, which is what i did

Yeah, my fruit trees just line some pathways atm, and even then I'll probably replace them with more worthwhile stuff at the sides eventually

it's also worth baring in mind they really don't need much space when fully grown, and you can use the trees as natural borders instead of always using fences

@timid kernel I agree totally with you. It's mostly due to the fact it annoys me where my town hall and airport is placed 🤣 and also that piece of green land.
But Ill probably get it to work somehow. No shame in having the island look a Lil bit messy. It's what makes it mine 😎

im honestly thinking of restarting because; my rs doesn't line up, my buildings are placed badly, i hate my neighborhood i built, my flower breed and cloning is so bad and could be optimized, my orchard sucks, and my overall island is just bad. but i am a 4 star so idk what to do

@finite basalt you should figure out what you DO want. it's easy to say you don't like all those things but what would you change? RS and airport lining up seems to be 1 thing you'd change, what else? do you think you could be challenged in a good way and enjoy your current placements of the RS/Airport after you realized what else you'd wanna do on your current island? < this is why i said before it's important to make a plan. really try to figure out what you want in some context

@finite basalt my girlfriend and I both started over just this weekend! I was nervous at first but taking what I know now from playing the game and being much pickier with placements and villagers I'm much more happy. I also love the thrill of starting out fresh though. Overall, if you are going to do it it's much better to do so now rather than spend more days in game progressing an island that will no longer be there haha good luck with what ever you decide!
