I’m at 150 hours I’ve moved every building at least 5 times and I can’t get it! I’m lowkey starting to hate this game a little because it’s so infuriating I feel like no matter what I do nothing looks good. My plan is the cut the cliffs back a bit, make them more square etc, put my museum and house on the cliff at back, make the campsite in a little waterfall area in the middle of the cliff, have 2 neighbourhoods with 5 houses in each, have a shopping / market area around town hall and other decorations around the island. I would also change the rivers a bit and add fancy features like a really fancy entrance to my island and water features etc. I’ll probably make an island plan soon. Should I move everything to the beach first or move them to final spots? I will be time travelling a bit after I get terraforming so I will be able to afford it.

Ok its taken me like 20 hours of gameplay to do it, but I finally
reterraformed my entire second and third levels, moved all of my villagers houses (wolfgang's twice), cut down or dug up all my trees, replanted all my trees, replaced half of the bridges and inclines with new ones (gotta do the rest still), dig up all my flowers and move them to the beach (I'm about to move them to where they'll stay). Way too much work but I LOVE my island now.

It depends on you. I like cohesiveness but if you think about it, in a real town the paths in town are different then residential areas and most individual houses have their own thing happening

@heady dew put a path going through on the ground. Try out soda and snack machines with maybe a bench. put a light in the center or have a payphone by it.
To make it feel like a special zone use fences but dont close too much of it off that it feels like its something you have to squeeze through

@karmic wasp it really comes down to preferance but dont forget you can put stuff on beaches. I made a very nice house for one of my villagers
by putting him by the dock in that bottom left spot and putting some fencing near it. made it look like its part of his house/he runs the place around there

depends on how you like to lay it out. since max villagers is 10 you can get pretty creative with grouping them in groups of 2 or 3.
I know a very underused concept is making a type of triangle area for the placement of the houses and filling in the middle part with trees and decorative things.
Id say try to break the whole "houses in a straight line" idea

@woven drift im going for something similar to your theme as well. What I like to do is build pathways using not the fancy paths but like dirt and stone.
then go back over it and remove random bits and put flowers growing in spots. weeds are a necessary evil because it may cause score to go down a bit but makes it seem
more natural and wild. also the taxadermy statues from flick make a nice addition to a magic type feel for some things
