hey! has anyone here done boardwalks? i made one at the entrance of my island but i'm a little stumped because 1, there are only so many shops and kiosks i can build there; 2, i'm going for a very natural / wild look so technically there's a mountain sort of. in the way. and i'd like to leave it there and put my museum on it but. idk i feel like something's not working. if you guys have pictures / videos of your own boardwalks it would be extra helpful and appreciated cause i could use some inspiration please. i'm kinda discouraged. 😪 thanks!

So I built this fruit orchard right? Giant square on my map. And honestly, even though it looks unnatural to high hell, I love it. But then today, because I’m dumb, I was walking to Opals house and I realized that when I am behind the fruit orchard mountain, I can’t see Jack shit... like the mountain covers it all!!

@lilac glade My experience for making my island (legit, no joke) came from years of building and sculpting land in minecraft, and if there's anything I've learned it's to avoid straight stretches of land or water. Natural rivers and cliffs have curves and jagged edges. They run together and twist and bend. And if you're struggling with things seemingly flat and depthless, don't be afraid to use trees to break up the space. Put them in front and behind objects, obscuring things slightly but not all the way, just like in real life.
My campsite, as a ~loose~ example of staggering objects to create depth.

It seems like when people are having trouble coming up with ideas for their areas or their town they generally show pictures where they've sort of... ''cropped'' a zone, as it were. Planting trees around an area but not within the area so that it appears to be open and bigger than it is, but it tends to have the opposite effect. Same with furniture, pushing it out to the edges of an area rather than filling the area, perhaps out of fear that you won't be able to walk through it? But it's more realistic that way I feel like :P

What worked for me was removing almost all the trees from the island, planning out what I wanted and where things were gonna go, aka moving buildings to their area and terraforming as necessary to accommodate said buildings and areas, then going back in and decorating with furniture and trees, adjusting after the fact. All I really knew when I started the game was that I wanted a bunch of waterfalls and just worked from that idea

@lilac glade something i did to make things easier is to work in pieces with what i'm allowed to do in a day. when i built my residential area, i had an idea of where it would be and that was about it. mine ended up being in four rows, and i set up one row every couple of days as villagers moved in. this is a video of what it looks like since i took it in such small chunks: https://twitter.com/sedumisland/status/1251605634421673984

The things that you have to keep in mind with the islands and what you can’t change: rivermouths, big rocks on the beach, the pier, the outstretching piece of land, the plaza and the secret beach. Otherwise you can pretty much change everything else.

Lea, don’t. Do that with rivers, but don’t do it with all cliffs. It’s going to take an eternity. Plan what cliffs you need and shape them out from what you already have

They'll randomly pick again on reset just do it as soon as you see the text
