the author of the Wizard of Oz actually wrote 14 Oz Books, and another one he wrote using a character that ends up in the Oz books, it focuses on mermaid kingdoms. It's called the Sea Fairies and it's one of my favorites

and yeah kodi, in his notes to readers in the introductions he mentioned that he kept writing Oz stories because he got so many fan letters from kids asking what Dorothy was doing in Oz. It's kind of sweet that he kept writing to keep Dorothy alive and by the end of his life he considered himself the Oz historian

also, keep in mind "dark" in this case just means darker in comparison than previous stories where there wasn't ever real danger because the characters had magic to get them out of things and there are universe rules like nobody can starve or die of old age in Oz. They were aimed at young audiences so there wasn't ever really a feeling of danger in whatever situations the characters got into

Spicy Pumpkin Soup:
1/2 medium Pumpkin, or 1 butternut squash, skinned, cubed and roasted
4 onions, diced,
2 carrots cubed if you feel like it
1 leek sliced
4 cloves of garlic crushed and diced
A thumb sized piece of ginger, peeled and diced
2 Bay leaves
2 tbsp madras spice mix, or more if you feel like it
6 cardamom pods
1tsp tumeric
Salt and pepper to taste
1 red chilli, deseeded and diced
500ml coconut milk (2 tins approx)
500ml chopped tin tomatoes (2 tins approx)
200 chicken or veg stock

. Sweat your onions, garlic, chilli, leeks carrots and spices til soft and fragrant
. Add your pumpkin and mix in til coated with spices
. Add your tomatoes and coconut milk
. Top up with stock of too dry
. Allow to simmer for 30 minutes to an hour to cook
. Afterwards, remove Bay leaves and cardamom pods and blend til smooth
. Salt and pepper to taste

To make it more of a curry, add in marinated chicken, chickpeas and a handful of spinach, and serve with rice. @tawny plaza
