well for starters if you shade a colored drawing with black and Grey it's gonna come out looking dingy and gross

but in the case of monochromatic drawings, you should pick a light source and determine where you want the light to be hitting your drawing, whether the light is coming from the left, right, bottom or top. And then you shade on the opposite side of that, places that overlap will have a darker shade and stuff

(this also applies to colored drawings but just use gradients of black and Grey if that's all you're using)

@elder cairn I see what you were trying to go for but the nose is too far to the side for the way the jawline is positioned, and the eye behind is is a tad far off and almost coming off the face, if you're having trouble with a position it's really helpful to use references
