Honestly the reason he's hated is because of issues in his writing and the fact that even though Emily became a marriage candidate, Clint's dialogue doesn't reflect that at times.

Hey, I know you don't know me (I haven't said a word in here until now, lol), but I get it. I'm the same way, and so is my husband. We both have a tendency to see ourselves as being too different or odd for anyone to like us. Whether it's friends or family

Almost like you view yourself as a burden or think that people only pretend around you, and it's hard to trust that people actually care. The truth is that they do care about you, but our minds may not let us see that. Even if we saw for a moment, we'll quickly forget. It can become a spiral. I can't diagnose anyone, but it can be self-esteem and anxiety. What my husband and I suspect about ourselves is OCD, and it can give those symptoms of depression, anxiety, and because of it, lower self-esteem until we learn how to deal with whatever it may be. Sorry for the book.
