lots of people say New Leaf is the best animal crossing game
There are features in New Lead that are not in New Horizons
First of all, the progression in the game feels more organic, there are more store upgrades and more stores get added and upgraded the longer you play the game. you plant a tree at the beginning and it grows bigger the longer you play. Villagers are random and their houses go in random spots.
You don’t have as much creative control like in New Horizons but New Leaf is still such a fun game for me because of that feeling of progression, it really makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something every time you unlock something new

pick a theme and plan around that, but don't look at the island as a whole when you're organising/cleaning it up. just do it bit by bit, take a day to do the beach, a day for the paths etc. it's much less overwhelming when you do it like that :)

Hmmmmm... I personally have it set-up where I have one part of my island with mixed forest, around the campsite. Then I have all evergreens with all the moss and moss items for a more magical atmosphere. Then I have more organized trees closer to the entrance and shops. Just some starter ideas!

Oh yeah, I have an orchard too, but I like having at least the native fruit around, and some non-native fruit near the villager houses (if I think they'd want one in their yard)

I would assume so as save data is just stored on the switch or on the nintendo cloud and it should be the same save protocol between downloaded games and cartridge based

I don't believe Nintendo saves anything on the actual cart's anymore aside from gameplay data

Yes, as save data is stored on the Switch itself and not on the game cartridge.

depends on the game. generally, if u buy your regions card it will have the same savedata if ur region on ur ninaccount is the same

but some games have different codes which sets them apart and for those specific games, if u have for example a japanese cartridge but u have savedata from playing a digital usa/europe version, it cant be read by the japanese game
