I'm putting a replacement motor in my 95 legacy, everything is together and it refuses to start.
Things I've Checked/Tried:

  • I took spark plugs out and they all worked
  • Tried starter fluid
  • Swapped around injector wires
  • Tried a different plugs/wires/coilpack
  • Cleaned crank sensor (was pretty gunky)
  • Tried different crank sensor
  • Checked compression and it was aok
  • Has fuel pressure

The car backfired out the intake when we used starter fluid

The motor is from one of my other cars so I know that it ran before pulling. The only difference is I'm using a non EGT intake (because this car didn't have EGT)

crank gear and cam gears swapped from the 95?

#

there are a few different versions depending on what your motor was removed from

I'm fairly sure it was removed from a 96 impreza OBS. I checked the crank gear and it looks identical. I'll look into the cam gears maybe, but I'd assume they're the same because it's still dual port heads

Crank gear looks identical. And so do the cam gears :/

(Black one is from the 96 motor)

Those aren’t the gears

You care about the part with the teeth for the cam/crank position sensors

no missing teeth on the crank gear?

#

if i’m remembering correctly you should have an RPM reading while cranking, it’s barely getting fuel so i’d verify that you 1. are getting 12v at injectors and 2. actually have fuel pressure and ideally that your crank position sensor is functioning correctly

I figured it out, I'm an idiot and didn't clean my crank gear very well so I was using the wrong timing mark...

Thankfully that’s a non interference
