#

Im sure im missing a ton of shit

#

thats just what i can remember off the top of my head

#

like 40k ish so expensive yeah but better than buying a buggati

#

oh and sequential sti gearing with 3.2xx5 ratios

#

everything else is just body weight savings like carbon fibre, aluminum body for the parts i cant get fabbed into carbon fibre

#

thats in the next 20 years after i get my job as a pilot and earn like 400k a year which so far is going great

drifting forge
#

so ummm...
it's turning out the culprit on the subaru is the steering joint, and not the steering rack

#

greased up the joint today and the issues went away almost immediately, and almost completelt
tho it now has a massive deadspot at the center, and it does stiffen up every now and again, especially when turning right, so the joint is looking to definitely be knackered,
and oh joy
they're out of stock
and no longer in production
so eneded up ordering the cleaner looking of the 3 used joints on eBay right now

prime saddle
#

i have one, they are the same as rhd and its good condition

#

so if the ebay one doesn't work i have one

drifting forge
#

how much you want for it?

prime saddle
#

20 bucks plus shipping for you

#

i have shipped to Luxembourg it was like 30-40 dollars for sideskirts

drifting forge
#

drifting forge
#

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

#

all the stickers

drifting forge
#

Wonder if theres any companies in the UK that refurb BCs... Tempted to send my rears out for a refurb if I can instead of buying a full new set

round skiff
#

I doubt you'll find service cheaper than what the new shock price is

drifting forge
#

Dont think i can buy just the individual struts sadly. The fronts seem good so its just the rears that are naff, would rather avoid having to drop £1200 on a new set if I can get away with just refurbing or replacing the rears for £500-£700

round skiff
#

Oh you absolutely can. Think it's like 130€ for one strut

#

Yeah the Finnish retailer prices the BR ones at 120€/piece

drifting forge
#

I mean the entire thing, not just the individual shock absorber

#

I dont want to be taking the strut apart to replace anything on it. I just want to take the whole thing off the car, put a new one on, and be done

#

I aint playing the death spring grenade game

round skiff
#

Ah, right

pearl oak
#

I love the fact you could get replacement alarm stickers if you wanted

dawn ginkgo
drifting forge
#

i mean they're stickers, maybe like $15 for a large padded envelope?

drifting forge
#

tomorrow is drop-off day yay

drifting forge
#

Dropping off the turd

drifting forge
#

#notmyengine

prime saddle
#

#iwantthatengine

drifting forge
#

Thats what mines gonna look like as well

pearl oak
#

Meanwhile I’m crying as I sell my engine and wish I didn’t have to

#

Envious

prime saddle
#

you never have to do things

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

I have enough spare parts that I should buy a gc/gd down the line for them

#

Maybe do a blue turd and buy a dirty non turbo and overhaul it

drifting forge
#

Ah yes, the way of the masochist. Having to hunt down turbo specific parts that you never thought you needed and that nobody sells

pearl oak
#

That too

#

Sounds painful but rewarding

#

Did you end up using any of those dodgy Subaru breaker Facebook groups?

prime saddle
#

dodgy?

#

they arent dodgy as long as you arent a moron

#

paypal goods and services only is really the only rule to not get fucked

#

and yeah he did

drifting forge
#

Groups, no, but I have a couple breakers I trust. Bart rocko in rochdale and impreza parts up in carlisle and peter bell in scotland is who I used for most of my parts

prime saddle
#

peter bell is good but hes kinda a bitch

#

i guess thats scottish people

#

probably why im such a bitch

#

i have like 30% scottish

drifting forge
#

Hes who I got all the wiring off, fuseboxes, relays and a good bunch of sensors

prime saddle
#

orlando, peter, bryan, cam, me,

#

uh

#

and like 3 others

#

that are biggish ones

#

josh

pearl oak
#

Oh yeah I have some breakers that I know are legit but the Facebook groups are often really dodgy. I was part of a few I idly was looking in that got closed down because half of the mods were just dealing in stolen wrx parts

prime saddle
#

scott

#

not gc8 owners club

#

nobody really steals anything from my knowledge

#

i know some of the older ones do

#

it isnt really a problem with gc owners because we are all civilized unlike those dumbass va owners in the sti group

#

some of them atleast, just incase i trigger anyone

#

Antonio

#

dont know how i forgot him

drifting forge
#

I've never bought anything off antonio. I keep wanting to buy a couple sets of new headlights, but got other expenses right now

prime saddle
#

i bought a

#

i think i bought my ecu off him

drifting forge
#

Want a new LHD set and a new RHD set

prime saddle
#

i want money

drifting forge
#

We all want that

prime saddle
#

yeah

#

i also want someone to buy my car so i dont have to deal with it anymore, i hate prefacelift stuff its a pain in the ass cause everything is brittls

pearl oak
#

Well it looks like I am not selling so now is the time to buy a gc and go above and beyond the blue turd with an ez30 instead right?

drifting forge
#

Good excuse as any 🤣

#

Was so weird this morning to walk outside and the car not be there

chilly turret
#

love the morettes sucks theres no good way to paint match them on the gc8s

#

they look great on bugs

drifting forge
#

turd trio

drifting forge
#

Hah, subaru thailand knows whats up

prime saddle
#

Adi guess which cylinder had the blown headgasket, and they are in the correct order

drifting forge
#

Mans assuming I know cylinder numbers 🤣

prime saddle
#

bruh

#

3 4
1 2

drifting forge
#

Got some angled gauge plates for when the subaru is back, make the gauges point at me slightly so I can read them better since they're not in an ideal spot. Would be even better if they were angled up a bit too. Don't exactly know how I'm supposed to secure these on tho, theres no clips on the back or anything

#

oh and that reminds me, @prime saddle that switch I made a bit too long and it bows in the middle, and it's a pain to put into the hole here's the slightly shortened model if you wanna print it for yourself

#

not test printed this one yet myself so 🤷 but it's i think 2mm shorter between the pegs so should sit better

prime saddle
#

okay cool thanks

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

hor

#

hot

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

stock rods tho

drifting forge
#

them the STI rods

#

the stock rods were even thinner

#

i had them side by side in my hand

prime saddle
#

id honestly take the titanium thick ass nitrated aftermarket ones over the light stock ones

drifting forge
#

yes but

#

i'm out of money

#

so

#

till next time.

prime saddle
#

vf22 will push that enough to shoot those rods out the fenders

#

just get money dude

#

its that simple

drifting forge
#

ye, simple just get money

prime saddle
#

lol

drifting forge
#

just paid 1/3rd of my bank account in taxes this morning

#

just get money

prime saddle
#

my dads dead i dont pay taxes until im 21 or something

#

or i do but i get it all back in tax return

drifting forge
#

our taxes work different

#

don't know how they work

#

but my accountant tells me a number

prime saddle
#

yeah we have ro file ours

drifting forge
#

and I then wire that number to the government

#

and hope they don't ask me for more till next year

#

and there I was hoping i'd be able to buy a barchetta this month...
Tax man begged to differ.

round skiff
#

I see bridges between cylinder wall and block wall and also a black crank. I like what I'm seeing. Also you can still get maxpprods for 400 ish, they do be really accurately made for the price

#

But even though you have a windage tray, I'd still get the kicked in one just to be safe. The stock flat pan is shite

drifting forge
#

i'm genuinely maxed out on this, it'll have to do as it is. still gonna be loads better than a completely stock engine and I'm not planning on going over 300hp so it'll be fine

round skiff
#

Oh absolutely

#

But I'd say the most important next thing is the oil pan

#

Don't ask me how I know

#

But you do have the Link, get the oil pressure cut feature working properly

drifting forge
#

Bought some more key blanks

round skiff
#

Just the one I had replaced. I don't buy those long handled ones anymore, my other key snapped and the other is really bent. I only have low profile handles now.

pearl oak
#

Where did you get your replacement keys?

#

I need to get a spare for my legacy at some point

#

I don’t care for my buttons to work so just need to find suitable blanks that have the right transponders

drifting forge
drifting forge
#

not a space for transponders

pearl oak
#

Yeah no that’s fine, I just wanted a sauce, might be able to find something else from them

#

I assume I have a transponder anyway lol, my key hardly works anyway

drifting forge
#

Engines out again

prime saddle
round skiff
drifting forge
#

would have gone wossner if I had the extra money, think it was about £1k for a set of rods and pistons

round skiff
#

I'll buy maxpp next unless they rise the price too high

drifting forge
#

So, turns out the driver side cylinder head had the wrong version camshafts in it... And it wasnt tightened down properly... And it had the wrong internal bolts in...

round skiff
#

What in tarnation

drifting forge
#

So those two camshafts not only are shagged, but are the wrong ones. So I need the correct ones now. Fortunately the head itself is OK from what the engine man could see so far and he'll source me the correct camshafts

round skiff
#

How did you end up with the wrong ones?

drifting forge
#

Whoever had the engine before me did it. I got it as a longblock and not opened it up at all

round skiff
#

Right so it was a long block

drifting forge
#

Oh well... There go my Barchetta funds

round skiff
#

Those be some reasonable sums

#

Cams especially

drifting forge
#

Yes but still takes away from my other plans

round skiff
#

Yeah it's always the unforeseen costs

#

But least you could probably sell those cams

drifting forge
#

Nah they fucked

round skiff
#

Of course

pearl oak
#

Ooooh barchetta sounds like a dumb plan, I like the sound of it

prime saddle
#

ill take the cams

drifting forge
# pearl oak Ooooh barchetta sounds like a dumb plan, I like the sound of it

Theres one near me, imported 2007, done about 3000 miles between 07-11 and basically just done a yearly drive to the MOT place and back from 11-21, when the owner died and its been sitting in a barn. Needs recommissioning but if its as clean as I hope itll be, i wanna get it. I'm stuck in cambridge with work till christmas tho

pearl oak
#

Oh not bad, they are dumb little roadsters, they seem quite cool. Do you have plans or just recommissioning it?

drifting forge
#

Recommission, lanoguard, get some alfa romeo mito 18" tri-spokes on it and a hardtop just in case and then just enjoy it in the summer

prime saddle
#

make fun of me for being a stupid american but i really want an 01 sti bugeye since we never got them

#

i guess im not stupid technically above avergae with a b

drifting forge
#

Sadly its silver, the most boring colour it came in, but if the body is clean I can always get it wrapped

pearl oak
#

Sounds great tbh, they are all the same 1.8l fwd right? I don’t know much about them other than their iconic looks

drifting forge
#

Yeah 1.8, fwd, 130hp. Enough to be entertaining

prime saddle
#

it is turbo?

pearl oak
#

Yeah they weigh basically nothing, especially without a hardtop

#

I think they are na

drifting forge
#

Went to see a yellow one last week and my god was it sexy in yellow, but the underside was rotten and it had fresh fiberglass and undercoat in the wheel arches

prime saddle
#

cool i wonder if my 1.8l impreza would beat it in a race, it has around 128hp

drifting forge
#

No, its n/a

#

Barchetta would probably win on basis of being lighter

prime saddle
#

probably since we americans got all these stupid safety systems

#

but ive seen some nasty crashes in these gc8s and the drivers and passengers got out unscathed which is pretty impressive

#

probably one of the safest 90s car out there

#

the weight difference is around 200kg

#

93s and 94s didnt have airbags on the passenger though

drifting forge
#

Think they look great with the right wheels even in silver

pearl oak
#

Subaru safety systems were really good for their time anyway

prime saddle
#

that does look nice, looks like a mix between a s2000 and 911

pearl oak
#

Oh wow yeah silver is not the best colour for showing off their design bless them

prime saddle
#

not 911 a boxter

pearl oak
#

I love them in black, yellow or red personally

drifting forge
#

Also with the hardtop but kinda defeats the purpose of a roadster, I'd still want a hardtop just to have it in the garage tho. Sadly this one met its end

prime saddle
#

name one car that doesn't look good in yellow

#

ouch

pearl oak
#

Ooof

prime saddle
#

the bumper looks okay atleast

pearl oak
#

Plastic bumpers for the win

#

I’ve been banned from buying another car for the moment

prime saddle
#

lol

#

im trying to buy 4 bmws not even kidding

pearl oak
#

I need to fix the legacy first

prime saddle
#

2 328is, 1 550itt, 1 328i e36, and i forgot about the 323i

#

all abandoned by the owners

#

one retails used fof around 20k and the only issue is that it has a bad oil leak that takes around 17 hours to repair

drifting forge
#

You need an orange barchetta to go with your other orange

pearl oak
#

Mmmmm

#

More orange

#

I’m thinking of liquid wrapping the legacy in hot rod red once it’s fixed

prime saddle
#

i like orange

drifting forge
#

I wanted a yellow one so I can call it the banana boat and put a harry belafonte sticker on the back

pearl oak
#

You can still wrap it yellow

prime saddle
#

anime wrap it

drifting forge
#

No

prime saddle
#

wdym no youll match your friend

drifting forge
#

Already have to deal with an anime wrap in my life

prime saddle
#

lol

drifting forge
#

And anime wraps look like crap if you dont have exagerrated bodykits, wings and wheels on as well

pearl oak
#

Yeah there is a bone stock civic type r of a few gens ago with a anime front wrap and it looks so dumb

#

It always parks near me at work

prime saddle
#

i agree if you dont do it right

#

ill probaly throw on that s201 wing i got for 800 on it, sky walker bumper, some sideskirts things like that idk

#

then anime wrap it cause i want to assert my dominance over that gti with a wrap from some anime. youd be suprised but im not really an anime fan, i only watched wangan midnight and play a game called blue archive thats it

#

anyways judge me if you please i couldnt give a shit lol its my car

pearl oak
#

I’m going to make my legacy look dumb I reckon, it’s gonna have a usdm spoiler, be lowered with a loud exhaust and wrapped in fuck off bright red

#

Dumb car hours

prime saddle
#

why usdm parts

pearl oak
#

Uk never got the spoiler and getting a jdm one is like £300

prime saddle
#

im assuming thats alot for you

pearl oak
#

Us import is somehow cheaper

prime saddle
#

lol taxpayers

pearl oak
#

And it’s almost identical if not identical spoiler

prime saddle
#

i love being a minor

drifting forge
#

Ah yes, forgot you cant have the alcohols for another 4 years or so

prime saddle
#

well

drifting forge
#

Legally

prime saddle
#

if im on my property i can LEGALLY drink it

#

just not on public property

#

but my mom wont allow it

drifting forge
#

Thems the rimz I'd want to put on the barchetta

#

But the only barchetta I got so far is a 1/18 scale model

pearl oak
#

Those are nice wheels, look like a pain to deal with if they get scratched

#

And I scrape my wheels too much

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Polish the valve covers

pearl oak
#

Or whichever other country is your personal preference

round skiff
#

Just don't Finnish them, you'll need them

#

Why did I make the same pun I probably hate the most

pearl oak
#

That’s true

#

Because puns are great

drifting forge
#

i did briefly consider getting them powdercoated red, but then there would be too much red in the engine bay and I don't want to become what I criticise and have the whole thing color coded to a single color like a boomer

drifting forge
round skiff
#

So shiny

pearl oak
#

Wow a sump without rust on it

#

I should do that

prime saddle
#

ha imagine rust - Local non rust belt Tennessean

pearl oak
#

What’s a rust belt? We live in a rust country

prime saddle
#

sux 4 u

pearl oak
#

It’s fine, it’s easy enough to deal with

round skiff
pearl oak
#

I’ll probably just buy a new sump, it’s like £100 max

prime saddle
#

killer b

pearl oak
#

Do killer b make an ez30r sump?

prime saddle
#

idk look

#

iag did at one point

pearl oak
#

I know possum motorsport make a baffle, not sure I really need a baffle as I’m not gonna push much more power than stock

drifting forge
round skiff
#

What's with the LIN cam sprocket?

drifting forge
#

No clue what youre saying

round skiff
#

The left intake cam sprocket is very much different from the rest

drifting forge
#

Probably one of those version specific changes

prime saddle
#

yeah it is, they changed to plastic ones on the new ones its just a different metal on those

#

solid metal rather

#

the others are iron or something cause the cam sensor

drifting forge
#

Uh oh spaghetti-ohs

drifting forge
#

supposedly it's gonna be done on wednesday,

they're just waiting on a replacement steering coupler to arrive because somehow, the original one and the replacement one I got seem too short.

that's the consesnsus between 3 subaru mechanics from two different subaru garages at this point.

We're suspecting one of the previous owners may have put a newage steering column in, because both the old and the replacement joints and steering racks I got are the same sizes, that leaves just the steering column to be the culprit, and rather than trying to source a new column and taking the dash apart to replace it, we're just gonna throw shit at the wall and see if a longer newage steering joint works.

drifting forge
#

plan is to pick it up on saturday around 3

round skiff
drifting forge
drifting forge
pearl oak
#

It’s working!

#

I think that gift shifter could be longer

drifting forge
#

Longest I could find single piece on ebay. I can definitly do a double-up

drifting forge

oh no

what have I done

what am I planning

drifting forge
#

got till the 17th of feb to get the engine fully run in and dyno tuned

prime saddle
#

go on the autobahn and do top speed test

drifting forge
#

absolutely not

prime saddle
#

wdym no

drifting forge
#

i've got a doctors appointment I'll need to get to

#

can't risk grenading the fucking thing on the way

prime saddle
#

a doctors appointment in

#

what is that

drifting forge
#

romania

prime saddle
#

like hungry area

#

oh

#

hungary

#

i dont even know im not european

drifting forge
#

because otherwise I'll be waiting 9+ months for the public healthcare in the UK to get me an appointment. again.

round skiff
#

You gonna take a scenic route through Finland and take a certain flat blue souvenir? It's still there, waiting for you.

drifting forge
#

sadly no, i'd love to, but can't at the moment

round skiff
#

It hasn't moved a nudge in 3 years, it's probably gonna still be there if and when you need it

prime saddle
#

dude my sims are showing 2.9 lateral Gs on a 97 with basic/mid aero mods

drifting forge
#

Firewall will most definitely come off a full rotten non turbo donore
Car, along with all the LHD specific parts, except the wiring harness

drifting forge
#

Too far

prime saddle
#

you help me ship a coupe sti i got you that when they take the container back

round skiff
prime saddle
#

same body number so yeah

round skiff
#

It's not

prime saddle
#

proof

round skiff
#

Cars are registered mindful of their propulsion method and power

drifting forge
#

Yeah, vin plates and paperwork is really all i'd need off a turbo car

prime saddle
#

its a sheet of metal lol

#

how is there a difference

round skiff
#

Because the number etched to said firewall is very different in every car

#

That's kinda the point

prime saddle
#

they have filler holes for the dccd wires and stuff thats on the turbos

#

somebody used filler for mine

drifting forge
#

You can cut that bit of the firewall off and weld it on another

prime saddle
#

no vin on mine

#

minus the dash, driver door and passenger strut

round skiff
prime saddle
#

yeah so the part number for the firewalls is the same, just not the punch in vin

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Well the firewall was just extra, the important bit can be extracted from it

pearl oak
#

Ahh looks like a short drive, it’ll be fiiiiine…

drifting forge
#

finally sticking a dashcam back in the turd

drifting forge
#

Lights

prime saddle
#

now foglights?

drifting forge
#

no, just all the lights

prime saddle
#

yeah but is next foglights

#

are you getting foglights

drifting forge
#

when I get the turbo bumper painted and back on the car, yeah

prime saddle
#

you no like that one?

drifting forge
#

gonna get some big fuck-off rally spotlights to go in the holes

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

oh ok

drifting forge
#

but I like it enought to where I'm not rushing to get the other one resprayed, and when I do get it resprayed, I'll get both done so that I can just switch between when I feel like it

#

I want some proper spot lights, with covers in the holes. factory fog lights (which I somehow lost mine) are pretty much useless

round skiff
# drifting forge

Have you considered making the parking lights turn signals? I haven't seen that done in any other GC

drifting forge
#

Friends done it, i dont care for it

round skiff
#

Ah. Are you running on the Link now?

drifting forge
#

Yes

round skiff
#

Nice. Have you gotten it properly tuned already?

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Shooting for the 300hp?

drifting forge
#

No, gonna just get a base tune for 95 on it, and then later on when i upgrade the fuel rails, pump and turbo gonna do a power tune

round skiff
#

Ah, nice. Keen to see what kind of a graph it'll put out then

drifting forge
#

so am I. first tune is basically gonna be a extra-safe economy tune that I can use any fuel with for the trip to romania and back

#

and then later on I'm gonna want to get a nice big turbo (got the one that scoobyclinic sells in my watchlist), top-feed fuel rails with big injectors, an rcm fuel pump and run thicker wires and a relay for the pump itself since the factory wiring is too thin for 300+ lph pumps and tends to melt the plugs

#

so once thats on the car I'll go for an actual power tune, with switchable maps for 95 and 99

round skiff
drifting forge
#

the SC36 billet turbo

round skiff
#

Honestly? Just don't. That's waaay too big for 300 hp. You won't have torque down low and if your goal is 300hp, torque is typically the best part of it

drifting forge
round skiff
#

I'd say you'll get a lot more out of a VF34. It'll easily take you to 300hp with just 1 bar of boost, it's roller bearing so it'll spool fast and they're easy to find, used, new and rebuilt.

#

Or VF24/28/29

drifting forge
#

nah, i'll be going for that billet

#

and what power I get out of it is what power I get out of it

#

should know by now that I'm not a person concerned by numbers, or optimizing torque curves and shit

round skiff
#

You'll get a lot more than 300hp that's for sure

drifting forge
#

i enjoy turbo lag

round skiff
#

Yeah I'm just saying if 300hp is what you want, you're wasting money on that

#

If you want that turbo and see what it gives, that's of course fine

drifting forge
#

The uber secure anti theft pad has arrived. Now I dobt have to lug my big clunky laptop around to enable/disable the ECU when I go anywhere anymore

round skiff
#

Any stumbling block is better than nothing

drifting forge
#

Disabling the ECU like this is better than any alarm system tbh.

Like, an alarm can be removed the same way it was installed.

Good luck figuring out the ECU password and knowing how to re-enable it, especially if I decide to start just deleting the map off the ECU when I park and downloading a fuctional map when I want to go

round skiff
#

So you have a tablet in the car you can disable the car with?

pearl oak
#

Page up time!

drifting forge
#

would be a bit counter productive if I left it in the car

#

especially if it gets stolen (the tablet) and leaves me stranded with a disabled car

pearl oak
#

Ohhh lol

round skiff
#

We came up with a different approach. A keyring with a 2 pin connector that's shorted with a resistor. Then we define an analog input in the car that will only allow the car to start if there's a specific voltage in the pin.

drifting forge
#

the means to disable that are in the car, they just have to short the connectors

round skiff
#

In theory yes, but you'd have to know to plug a potentiometer in it and find the very specific resistance it allows the car to start with

#

The resistor is in the keyring so shorting the leads won't help

drifting forge
#

it's a slightly better version ofa hidden kill switch, but like the kill switch, once found, can be fettled with enough till you get a result

round skiff
#

You'd have to bypass the ECU password and find that specific condition that prevents the start

#

Being able to replicate the specific resistance is very unlikely, since the window is so narrow. And that would require the thief to understand to try that in the first place and have a potentiometer with the correct scale with them

drifting forge
#

fair enough

#

I'm gonna stick with mine tho since it involves zero extra wiring

round skiff
#

You can also change shit on the fly if needed and troubleshoot

drifting forge
#

was debating getting a tablet mount in the car to just leave the tablet on for diag display when driving , sort of like that digital dash you've got

round skiff
#

The bad thing the tablet is that if they open it they'll find which ECU the car has

#

Though they'd find that shit by enabling BT

#

If you take the tablet with you they'll get no clue as to what the car is powered by

drifting forge
#

i absolutely take the tablet with me

#

so they'd need to

  1. obtain the tablet
  2. unlock the tablet
  3. connect to the ECU
  4. unlock the ECU
  5. disable anti-theft or download the functional map onto the ECU

If it's at the mall parking lot, it'll probably just be disable the anti theft

If the cars been sitting parked for a while while I'm away with work for a week or two, it will be download the functional map

#

this all takes me about 30 seconds to do btw, so it's not exactly an inconvenience

round skiff
#

Yeah they can always wipe the ECU but good luck getting a functional tune on it

drifting forge
#

especially since half the factory engine sensors are either missing or replaced with universal aftermarket ones that require calibration sheets to be put in

round skiff
#

Yeah, have fun calibrating the throttle

#

I just had to fill the tires on my dad's van

#

Now, that isn't a challenge on itself but it's under -33 out

drifting forge
#

rubber no longer rubbery

round skiff
#

Metal air gun rather cool

drifting forge
#

here it's just wet

#

very very wet

#

been constantly raining for the past 2 weeks

#

not really very cold tho

round skiff
#

Think Southern Yurop is like +20

drifting forge
#

yeah, bastards out in spain just lounging around in shorts and flip flops

drifting forge
#

Almost time for the first oil echangé

drifting forge
#

Natural habitat

drifting forge
#

i'm getting fancy now. made a very basic electrical drawing for putting in the kettle switches tomorrow

round skiff
#

Nice. If you want to free up space for another switch you could combine the radio switches with a 3 pole switch

#

On-night/Off/On-day

drifting forge
#

yeah but that would mean I have to cut power to the radio to switch from day to night

#

which will mess with android auto alot

#

because it REALLY hates loosing connection

round skiff
#

I assume the night/day is dimmer?

drifting forge
#

the day/night switch is because AA looks for a signal if the headlights are on to switch stuff like google maps from the bright day theme to the dark night theme

#

so I want to be abvle to have the separate and turn it on/off at will

round skiff
#

If you wanted to geek out you could probably put in a condensator to let the voltage hang while switching from night to day

drifting forge
#

and without having to go thru like 3 touchscreen menus to do it from AA setting like I currently am

#

nah, I just want the switch

round skiff
#

Yeah that does make it a lot easier

drifting forge
#

and the radio power switch is to do just that, cut power to the radio completely, because my current radio doesn't actually turn off when you press it's power button, it just goes into sleep mode, stupid chinese POS, and I want to be able to just preventing it from turning on at all when I'm doing something that requires minimal power draw

drifting forge
#

Kettle switches 🤣

round skiff
#

Nice. I really need to find the same USB plug you have, it's so much prettier

drifting forge
#

oh I figured something out a few days ago. I can hijack the DI that is being used for the A/C request, so if I get a heater control unit with the A/C button, I could very much use it as an immobiliser button lol

#

because me not having A/C, the A/C request is a wasted DI

drifting forge
round skiff
#

I wonder to what extent it has the AC parts behind that blocking plate

#

It's entirely possible the button is there

drifting forge
#

I'd imagine the plugs at the back are the same

drifting forge
#

one of those

round skiff
#

"Does not ship to Finland" but does to UK? Bruh

drifting forge
#

wtf, it's from china, why they discriminatin

round skiff
#

But thanks, it's also available from vendors who do

drifting forge
#

what has finland done to upset winnie the pooh

round skiff
#

Of course the cheapest one doesn't ship to Finland lol

#

Not that there's barely any difference

#

Ah, forgot VAT. Shit.

drifting forge
#

since I can repurpose the A/C button for other fuctions, since my car doesn't have A/C, it's a wasted DI on the link

I could get an A/C heater control unit that has the button, so I can actually use it

And set the A/C button to be the high-power map switch, for the memes of "turn the A/C off for more power to overtake"

#

and I mean...

drifting forge
#

the POWER button has arrived

pearl oak
#

Adds a whole 5hp!

drifting forge
#

gonna add a whole lot more when it switches the thing from low boost to high boost 🤣

round skiff
#

From 1 bar to 1.5?

drifting forge
#

need to confirm it actually sends the signals first tho, read somewhere that the heater control doesn't send out the A/C request signal unless theres pressure in the A/C system

pearl oak
#

Ooof

drifting forge
#

nah, was wrong, dunnow how much kpa is in psi

#

but low is 170, high is 200

#

oh, it's 1.7 bar and 2 bar

#

ah

#

so it's running more than I thought already

#

not gone over 3k rpm yet so not gone into boost, and probably won't till it's on the dyno

round skiff
#

No that's absolute

#

So 0.7 bar and 1.0

drifting forge
#

numbers confuse me

round skiff
#

When talking about boost or bar, it's typically atmospheric. But when talking about engine manifold pressure, it's typically in kPa and absolute

#

100kPa is just 1 bar

round skiff
#

But you can jump it to be

drifting forge
#

wiring... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

round skiff
#

This is 1997-1998

drifting forge
#

oh god my eyes, hide it, put it away, hissssssssssss

round skiff
#

And this is 1998, but it's USDM so it doesn't have pins for the manual ECU

#

Actually all you need to do is jump the thermoswitch connector

#

B88, connect pin 1 to pin 2

#

Assuming all the wiring is there

drifting forge
#

The pre-roadtrip cred as arrived

#

Also, the car finally has an alarm now

pearl oak
#

How alarming

round skiff
#

Alarm howling

prime saddle
#

wait what

#

these things have alarms

#

how do i do that with my key fob

#

wtf does the boot lid button do

drifting forge
#

if I had an actuator on the boot release cable, it'd pop the boot

prime saddle
#

stop giving me ideas

drifting forge
#

and I...

#

hmmmm

#

I could wire one in

#

would only be two wires

prime saddle
#

put one of those explosive ejecto seato things and use that as the "actuator"

drifting forge
#

and I have a motor

prime saddle
#

a what

#

oh

round skiff
#

Should only need a linear solenoid

drifting forge
#

but no, that would still be wiring

prime saddle
#

well

drifting forge
#

racecar

pearl oak
#

Oh no it’s running windows, car stalls because windows updates

drifting forge
pearl oak
drifting forge
#

bought some tools to have on the roadtrip

#

would have prefered a big set of halfords advanced for the warranty, but those are twice the price and I've not got that much money

drifting forge
drifting forge
#

"check oil level at every fuel stop"

They knew 🤣

pearl oak
#

I remember seeing this, it’s so funny that they always go check all the time just in case

drifting forge
#

Oh wow, the ICP IACV is actually ICP branded

drifting forge
drifting forge
pearl oak
#

But zip ties are essential for a build!

round skiff
#

That is noice

drifting forge
#

changed the permanent floating screen radio for a folding flip out screen one.

I very much do not like the way it looks, but was the only one that met all my requirements

  • oboard android OS so I can install apps directly on the radio, and watch youtube and stuff on it

  • minimum quad core (this ones 8 core)

  • minimum 2GB RAM (this ones 4GB)

  • wireless carplay and android auto

  • fold out screen

  • actual knobs for volume

#

and now, as a bonus, I can actually use my cupholders again!

drifting forge
drifting forge
round skiff
#

Is this the "getting it sorted" or "we'll see what it has" tune?

pearl oak
drifting forge
round skiff
#

Our first turbo engine was almost exactly that. It was really fun, torque curve was flat from 2500 onwards

drifting forge
round skiff
#

How much boost was it?

#

That is really conservative tune given how late it peaks

drifting forge
#

1 bar

pearl oak
#

Dyno dynamics dyno

drifting forge
#

Yeah, i specifically asked for extra safe 95

round skiff
#

Yeah that's not gonna knock anytime soon

#

Which turbo was it on?

drifting forge
#

Stock td04

#

Stock injectors too

drifting forge
#

Adrian, having recently completed a turbo engine conversion on his GC8 Impreza Sport, made a prudent move by installing a Link ECU. To fine-tune the performance, the car found its way to ET HQ for mapping, enabling Adrian to comfortably run on 95ron fuel.

While our strong recommendation is to run cars on 99ron fuel for optimal results, Adrian i...

#

Nice. I had completely forgotten it was a swap

prime saddle
#

yea

#

i kinda forget that you look like a new yorker sometimes

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

lol yeah

drifting forge
#

It drives sooooo goooood with the tune

prime saddle
#

mine doesnt drive well because i dont even have a tune when i really need one

#

but hey its a 1.8l good luck blowin that shit

drifting forge
#

Its genuinely so good to drive with the link

#

better than it was on the factory ECU for sure

#

even before I did the swap

#

I've very much fallen back in love with it now that it's about as sorted as it's ever been

#

I still want a barchetta tho

pearl oak
#

why not both

drifting forge
#

£££

pearl oak
#

I get that

#

I am saving for the next project

drifting forge
#

still a few things to do before I can start looking at barchettas tho

proper downpipe and midpipe
new suspension all round
new rear wheel hubs and 2-pots

#

so about 2.5k or so still to go into the subaru before I can start saving for the barchetta

#

and it has to be a red barchetta

#

I've decided

pearl oak
#

is there any other real kind? other than yellow

drifting forge
#

theres a silver one being sold by a funeral home nearby to where I live. imported to the UK in 2007, did about 2000 miles a year till 2014, then did about 50 miles every MOT since (likely to the MOT place and back)

#

and been sat in the funeral homes inventory for the past 3 years

#

so... good chance it's really clean

pearl oak
#

you know a wrap isnt that bad

drifting forge
#

but I've not got 4k burning a hole in my pocket

#

I hate wraps

#

traps moisture, peels, no bueno

pearl oak
#

door closed respray

drifting forge
#

this time next week I'll be packing the car and setting off towards harwich

#

cant wait

#

hype

pearl oak
#

thats a good long trip

drifting forge
#

maybe I'll even get some snow when I get to austria

#

will be crossing the alps afterall

drifting forge
#

probably the next purchase after I get back, depends how my month goes work-wise tho

#

already 1/3rd of the month in and I've only got 23 hours booked... it's looking to be a bad month...

pearl oak
#

You say Austria so I assume not harwich England?

drifting forge
#

taking the ferry from harwich to rotterdam, then driving thru germany to southern austria where I have some family to bum the sofa for a night, then driving thru hungary to romania

pearl oak
#

Ahhh that’s a good trip

#

Much longer than just to harwich

drifting forge
#

harwich is only about 5-6 hours or so

#

probably less since I'll be driving at night so less traffic

#

need to be there by 6am to checkin for the ferry

prime saddle
#

same, but i dont pay taxes like you adults

#

thats the power of having a dead dad, all your money back in tax return

drifting forge
#

I've got a dead dad, didn't save me from taxes

pearl oak
#

Same

#

Trying to save and having to pay adult stuff sucks

drifting forge
#

Here we go lads

drifting forge
#

Mpg from manchester to harwich btw, not too bad for a turbo I think

round skiff
#

That's vewy nice. What does your AFR and ignition map look like?

drifting forge
#

No clue lol

#

Black magic to me

round skiff
#

I'd be curious to see

drifting forge
#

Hol up

drifting forge
#

I've got the crack-danger specials on now boiiiii

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Back on the island?

drifting forge
#

yeah...

#

already regretting it

#

think I'll finally move back to romania at the end of the year

drifting forge
#

I've obtained a roof box

prime saddle
#

less bulky than the camper

#

honestly looks better too

drifting forge
#

Campers gonna get sold sadly

prime saddle
#

how mcuh

drifting forge
#

Need money to please the bank overlords

#

£700 but my best friend has first refusal

prime saddle
#

thats like 2usd or something i think

#

jk

drifting forge
#

Both the camper and the roof box are there for practical reasons not just for looks

prime saddle
#

i found a car, im port to my house from japan for 9500usd

#

yeah i know

#

but still do you really need to camp in a gc8

#

get an outback

drifting forge
#

But i like my gc

prime saddle
#

fair enough continue

drifting forge
#

Also

#

I've been informed

#

That my oil pressure is way too high

prime saddle
#

what

drifting forge
#

Yep

prime saddle
#

thats possible lol?

#

well like

#

what is that even gonna do

drifting forge
#

Gauge shows 60 psi at idle, 100+ under load

prime saddle
#

damn thats insane

drifting forge
#

Thats in " explode the oil filter on the highway " territory

#

I've checked on a different gauge and it was the same, but both were checked wile using a sensor relocation hose

prime saddle
#

i thought you were gonna sasy like 30psi or something at idle

#

mines like .8kpa at idle with my n/a and a 10mm oil pump

#

5.6kpa under load

drifting forge
#

So now I've ordered a different pressure tester that I'm gonna test directly at the galley plug

#

Pressure with the 11mm pump i got should be around 20psi at idle and 60 psi under load

prime saddle
#

why is your shit in psi and mines in kpa it should be the other way around

drifting forge
#

Because psi rolls off the tongue better

#

And because i watched too much mythbusters growing up

prime saddle
#

i like kpa better, i like saying the letter k

#

and pronouncing words with k in it like kokanusumi and hanekdakuko

drifting forge
#

So anyway, gonna test it again tomorrow and if i get the same result, then probably gonna need a new oil pump or new pressure relief valve or something

#

Dont fucking know anymore

prime saddle
#

well start fucking knowing

drifting forge
#

Pressures been like this since the new engine went in

prime saddle
#

based

drifting forge
#

Thought it was normal, turns out it was not

#

And I already did like 6000 miles with it

#

Some of which being very fast miles on the autobahn

#

Fml if it needs a rebuild again

#

Not lost any oil yet tho

round skiff
#

Mine is at 7 bar only when cold, warm idle is tad high at about 2 bar (will go down to 1.5 when it gets hot) and at load it's usually like 5.5, maybe 4.5-5 if again it's real hot.
It's like your bypass just doesn't care

#

What grade oil are you using?

drifting forge
#

10w40

#

As per the manual

#

Had the same pressures with 5w30 when beimg run in too

round skiff
#

Huh. That doesn't explain it then. I don't know shit but I can't think of anything else other than a faulty/misconfigured oil pump

drifting forge
#

This is at cold start

#

Now we wait for it to warm up till the fans kick in

round skiff
#

Yeah that's risking blowing the seals out

prime saddle
#

send it

drifting forge
#

forgot i even ordered that...

pearl oak
#

Badge of ownership?

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Ohhh those things

#

I didn’t think we got them here?

drifting forge
#

We don't. Had to order it on my uncles TX address. Couldn't even use my own VIN when ordering, just grabbed a VIN off a car listed on eBay lol

pearl oak
#

Ahhh lol

drifting forge
#

They ask you for the cars VIN when ordering it and if its not a USDM VIN its not recognized

#

Shits free to order tho so figured eh why not

pearl oak
#

Yeah why not, it is cool some of the stuff SoA does

#

Like supporting parts for engines before the FA/FB lines…

#

I’m not salty that they won’t give me parts unless I import…

prime saddle
#

American stuff is stupid

drifting forge
#

I've commited a crime against my wallet... again

drifting forge
#

another year of terrorising the roads, yay

prime saddle
#

for the UK?

drifting forge
#

yeah, yearly inspection

prime saddle
#

the roads are terrorizing you

#

with all those damn potholes and i thought america was bad

drifting forge
#

oh yeah, the uk is bad even compared to romania

#

and romania is a shithole

pearl oak
#

Passed with flying colours? No advisories or anything?

drifting forge
#

nope

pearl oak
#

Winner

drifting forge
#

and the emissions werent that far off from being a legit pass

#

will get a type approved hawkeye sti downpipe and cat sometime this year and it should be happy days from then on

pearl oak
#

Damn not bad at all

#

Won’t a new downpipe and cat mean you’ll need to retune though

drifting forge
#

will definitely need a retune

#

but I want bigger turbo and injectors this year as well so will get them all dialed in the same session

pearl oak
#

Nice nice, what number you targeting this time? Or just drivability with a power bump?

drifting forge
#

300 is the goal

#

on 95

#

and a safe tune at that

#

also -might- be adding water meth injection

#

-might-

#

if friend has enough leftover gubbins from my r32 install and we cba to figure out how to do it

prime saddle
#

thats why i like germany

#

and japan

#

good toads

#

japan is good for street racing since they use subarus for cop cars you dont need to worry about being caught either.

drifting forge
drifting forge
#

Welp. Found out what the coolant leak I've been having for the past few months is.... crossover pipe is cracked

#

also, it's no longer available new

#

also, I'm gonna be driving the car to the netherlands for EMWalhalla next weekend

#

so...

#

fml.

round skiff
#

Luckily old engines you can source one from are abundant

drifting forge
#

yes, but the chances are they'll also be cracked

#

also the crossover pipe is one of those year specific items, so has to be 99-00

round skiff
#

Well shit. Is having it welded an option? Smearing epoxy could also work some, I'm not on sure what in the pic is a cast line and which one is the crack

drifting forge
#

I now sit and wait

drifting forge
#

only finally noticed it now as it's gained color after seeping enough coolant to dry in it

round skiff
#

Oh didn't even realize that's the one

drifting forge
#

gonna try and get it welded once its off and keep as a spare

round skiff
#

Might be pain because it's cast but I'd at least try epoxy if you needed it at some point

drifting forge
#

it's ally tho, so being cast doesnt matter as much when it comes to welding

#

easier to weld cast ally than cast iron

#

the annoying thing is tho. it's a holiday weekend, so the absolute earliest they'll get sent out is on tuesday

#

and the subaru is my only car now

#

and on 2AM friday morning I've gota 5-6 hour drive to the port of harwich to get on a ferry to the netherlands to go to EMWalhalla

round skiff
#

But if it is a good cast and the welder knows what they're doing, great

drifting forge
#

just crank the welder up to "YEET" and go at it

#

and you know what... that welds held up without problems for the past 5 years or so

round skiff
#

Lmao, no worries then

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Where’s the number plate from? That looks like a really nice quality one and not plastic?

#

My metal plate provider has been really unreliable recently

drifting forge
#

ej-plates on eBay, I've bought a lot of pressed metal plates off him, always been good

pearl oak
#

Ooooh thank you, I used to use ukmetalplates but the last 3 orders have had to contact them as my order has been wrong

drifting forge
#

some proper friday afternoon welds on these... fml. guess as long as they get it to pass emissions and quiet it down a bit I won't complain too much tho, after all they were only about £90 a pop...

prime saddle
#

i get the facebook and discord alerts

pearl oak
#

Those are definitely welds, I can’t say I’d do better but they sure aren’t pretty

drifting forge
#

Never ends does it

#

Ironically the middle one with the crustiest, rustiest, partially missing top hat has an almost brand new monroe shock absorber

drifting forge
#

Fortunately tho, i have the parts

#

But not the tools

pearl oak
#

Ahhhh gutted

#

What tools are you missing?

#

Just an impact wrench and spring clamps?

drifting forge
#

Everything needed to compress springs, and I dont want to have that live grenade death shit either. Terrified of spring clamps

pearl oak
#

Ahhh yeah that’s fair, I’ve only used mine once and they weren’t even clamping much tension

drifting forge
#

after trying like 5 different phone holder, I've finally mashed together one that I'm happy with

the 3M sticky tape base if off one holder, (I hope the sticky tape holds long term, we'll see)

had to get the little extension arm separately off ebay

the acount holder is off a different holder.

it's not in the way of blocky my view of the road, it's in a spot I'm used to having the phone holder from the saab, it's nicely aimed directly at me, and it doesn't get in the way of opening the glove box

round skiff
#

We have a ram mount copy motorcycle mount for the codriver tripmeter phone, it's been holding surprisingly well. Although with the 4 points of contact it can be annoying to position the phone so that it doesn't interfere with any of the side buttons

pearl oak
#

I really don’t look forwards to going back to a car without integrated phone support… I don’t know how I’ll manage as I broke the one I used on the legacy when I sold it

#

Phone mounts are like a specific branch of hell where none are good or are like all the money in the world like a quadlock case

drifting forge
#

quadlock cases are fu-u-ugly tho

pearl oak
#

Yeah but they do work, it’s a shit situation

pearl oak
#

I’ll just glue magnets to my phone eventually and just magnetise it to the car…

drifting forge
#

I find the more important bit to a good phone holder is a solid arm and base rather than the actual bit that holds the phone itself

pearl oak
#

In my legacy I had a nice plastic plate that was just stuck onto the plastic dash above the heater in the middle and just turned that one off and had the phone on one of those tension mounts. That worked for me but I didn’t get charging out of it

#

I reckon when I get my next car or get the mini working I’m gonna have to research good and proper as window space in the mini is a premium when no one is looking out for smol cars

drifting forge
#

yeah windows space is what I was struggling on the impreza as well, with the nav screen where the dash cubby used to be and the gauges on the A-pillar, didn't leave any room for a suction cup mount, so had to go down low by the center console

pearl oak
#

I wish android auto and apple car play was cheaper and more functional than it was. I’d have it in every car one way or another and it would fix everything

drifting forge
#

I've got a £100 ebay chinesium 2-din headunit in the garage somewhere that has wireless android auto and was working pretty good

drifting forge
#

Cant wait to see actual pro dragsters and not tron striped fiestas at a run what ya brung day for once...

drifting forge
#

@prime saddle do you have facelift cruise control buttons you'd be looking to sell by any chance? All the buttons/switches/stalks that have to do with the CC, but just buttons... Maybe the plugs that plug into them cut off the harness if you have one being butchered too. Wanna start putting together all the bits I'll want for the DBW conversion and cruise control buttons to wire up to the Link for actually controlling the CC are among the list

prime saddle
#

i got everything lol

#

im a parts dealer

#

but no actually ill have to check i just sold a box with interior accessories and buttons and i cant remember if that was part or not

drifting forge
#

If you got them, have a look what the cost to send them to dallas tx would be and lemme know. I get paid last friday of the month lol

prime saddle
#

steering wheel controller i know i have

drifting forge
#

What that even look like

prime saddle
#

i still have the cc module in the car

#

uh

#

one sec

drifting forge
#

I dont need the module, just the buttons so itll look factory and i wont have to use ebay boat buttons

#

all the CC control is gonna be done by the link ecu

prime saddle
#

thank god, theres hornets that made a neat in it and im scared

drifting forge
#

Get a fire extinguisher and blast them fools

prime saddle
#

i actually did that to a big ass colony of ants that made their home in my rusty trailer i use for parts storage

#

i just got a coupe by the way

drifting forge
#

Oh nice

prime saddle
#

but ill look tomorrow im shippingnorders out tonight

drifting forge
#

Very nice

#

Ok

round skiff
#

Hmm, I could maybe use a stalk myself. Tablet buttons for cruise isn't the most convenient solution

drifting forge
#

hmmm, done went and ordered the kartboy foglamp brackets so I can stick hotboi hella500s in the v6 turbo bumper

#

sadly they don'[t ship directly to europe so had to send them to my uncle in texas and he'll bring them over when he visits in august

#

gonna stick these bad boys on

prime saddle
#

hey so sorry but turns out i dont have the switch or anything related to it for that matter other than the module

#

ive been very busy and i just now checked now that i have a free day not traveling 400 miles from atlanta to nashville everyday

drifting forge
#

Aight no worries, time to stalk american eBay I guess

prime saddle
#

i msy be able to pull one off a forester if a junkyard has one

drifting forge
#

what if

drifting forge
#

it's been 4 years since I bought my thule fitting kit for roof bars for the subaru on ebay, and it's been 4 years since I've seen any more of those fitting kits in stock or for sale anywhere.

#

until this weekend

#

got a spare set finally

pearl oak
#

And now there will be thousands saturate the market now you have spares

drifting forge
#

know what... i'll buy em. hoard them. then sell them for a profit

pearl oak
drifting forge
#

also, booked the car fora towbar fitting next tuesday.

pikey caravan timeline about to be unlocked, gonna peace out of the batshit insane housing market.

prime saddle
#

i got a front towbar on my new coupee

#

its to mount rally lights

drifting forge
#

gonna be making some sort of bumper bar extension brackets for mine so I can mount extra rally lights too at some point

round skiff
#

I have 2 towbars, want one?

prime saddle
#

you want to buy mine? its cool and all and the way its mounted looks like it would stabilize the body pretty well since its tubular

#

you have to drill some holes for 22mm bolts though

drifting forge
# round skiff I have 2 towbars, want one?

romania requires authorised installation certificate and eu type approval certificate, something I need to get a towbar company to do the install to be given the certificates, and all the companies I know will only install stuff they supply new, not used stuff I supply

prime saddle
#

sounds like a dumbass country

#

yall have fun with your mots ill keep burning and polluting

drifting forge
prime saddle
#

no probaly not

#

anything you do want though

drifting forge
#

cruise control button and stalk

#

🤣

prime saddle
#

you want stalk?

#

i have stalk i didnt know you wanted stalk

drifting forge
#

stalk and button, needs to be facelift if theres any difference between them

prime saddle
#

no

#

i have stalk

#

not butotn

#

i can source if you need

drifting forge
#

yeah if you can pls

prime saddle
#

okay

round skiff
prime saddle
#

yeah but everyone knows subaru bolts go down by 2 mm 90% of the time, but in this case, yes the bolt diameter itself is 22mm

#

you drill 2 on the firewall, 2 on the lower side chassis mount near all the wiring and 2 on the frame rails on each side of the engine

#

firewalls are 22mm the rest are 18mm, 24mm bokt head and 20mm bolt head.

#

well its no oem but still like i said 90% of subaru bolts have a 2mm difference

#

10mm are usually m8, 12 are m10, 14 are m12 yada yada

round skiff
#

Step too low, 12mm is M8, 14mm is M14 and so on. 10mm is for M6.

drifting forge
#

Brackets bit crusty, but fortunately impulse bought new ones years ago. Now just need to wait for the kartboy adapter brackets to arrive in august

pearl oak
#

Not too bad that you couldn’t wire brush then rustoleum over them and call it a day though

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

Ahhh okay yeah that’s more hassle than it’s worth then

#

Especially when you have new ones

round skiff
#

The one on the right particularly looks rather crispy

pearl oak
#

I’m sure it’s fine

drifting forge
drifting forge
#

It took forever, but it actually worked.

drifting forge
#

Got a thing

pearl oak
#

Das a big exhaust

drifting forge
#

No, i've gone caravan spec

round skiff
#

At the brink of towing capacity

pearl oak
#

What even is your towing capacity on that?

drifting forge
#

500 unbraked, 1200 braked

#

so should be able to tow a small speedboat, or a decent 2-berth caravan

#

been looking at jetskis recently

drifting forge
#

Just realised the tow bar deleted my factory rear tow eye...

How am I supposed to get pulled out of a ditch now
Or how am I supposed to pull people out of ditches in the snow now

round skiff
#

Make a bracket that has a hole for a towing ring

drifting forge
#

I
I
I may have ordered a spare set of clear tail lights.
FOMO of stuff being out of stock and not having spares is getting very real

pearl oak
#

Oh noses

#

Which are the clear tails again?

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Don't tell me they ended the production on these

drifting forge
#

don't know, but probably not far off

#

the cars are 25+ years old now, so all the productions are either ending or about to end

pearl oak
#

Sad times

round skiff
#

They aren't listed EOL yet at least

#

Probably makes them a shit ton of money, I can not imagine the volume not being as big as a 25 year old car part can get

#

But you're right, it won't last forever

drifting forge
#

gonna get a few sets of side lights, wing lights and turnsignals to keep in the garage for rainy days as well in the coming months

round skiff
#

And you sure as shit aren't gonna lose on the lights even if you don't end up using them

drifting forge
#

Ordered a 3" silicone 45 degree elbow and a nipple fitting to finally delete the MAF pipe

round skiff
#

Nice, but what's the nipple for?

drifting forge
#

Tho annoyingly the nipple fitting I could only find with a 4mm ID, where the evap hose is 8mm ID

#

Evap charchoal canister piping

round skiff
#

Never had it but I think on mine it connected to the inlet pipe running under the manifold

drifting forge
#

The factory elbow where the maf sits has a port on the bottom that plums into the evap piping

#

Mines a 3-port

#

One goes to the pipe under the manifold, one goes to the evap solenoid (which I think mine might be dead because I'm seeing it a bit wet and stinking of petrol) and one goes to the inlet pipe

round skiff
#

I see. Unnecessary weight is what I call it

drifting forge
#

Yeah, I guess, but dont know where I'd route the vent pipe if I was to just vent the tank to atmosphere

drifting forge
#

wonder if I can just

round skiff
#

Everything else has been removed

drifting forge
drifting forge
# round skiff Everything else has been removed

yeah, fuck it, think I'll just delete it. where did you route the exit filter to vent to atmo? I wouldn't really want it in the engine bay itself by the hot exhaust, being fuel vapours after all...

round skiff
drifting forge
#

It is way too difficult to find a breather filter for a 6mm od pipe on ebay wtf

round skiff
#

The one we have goes over the hose

#

So the filter is probably something like 12mm id

drifting forge
#

Yeah, sod it, was looking at the piping just now, cba to make sense of all these lines again. Evap is going in the bin this weekend.

#

One less thing to break

#

Even tho im 95% sure the evap solenoid is broken since its all wet and smelling of petrol

drifting forge
pearl oak
#

You found somewhere to do it or got yourself some more secure ways to hold the springs?

round skiff
#

Adi will squeeze the springs with his bare hands

pearl oak
#

I’d believe that

prime saddle
#

i would too

drifting forge
#

Springs compressed with pure anger

drifting forge
#

ah.
good.

#

even gooder. fuck tha maf

drifting forge
#

Now whats gonna be the best way to drain the coolant enough to not have it go everywhere when i take the manifold and crossover pipe off tomorrow

round skiff
drifting forge
#

No drain plug, will have to pull the bottom hose off, but thermostat will be closed so dunno if itll properly drain

drifting forge
round skiff
drifting forge
#

Oh, dunno. Doubt theres many people using it so not really worth the cost in dev time to expand the function

round skiff
#

Could easily make that just as a custom function

#

If A, B and C then enable output purge

#

I use those a lot

drifting forge
#

You can set those up separately, and just have the solenoid as a custom solenoid instead of the preset purge

#

Its how the virtual triggers for my launch control are set to activate it

round skiff
#

Probably wouldn't even need a custom solenoid

drifting forge
#

By custom solenoid I mean just tap directly into the output its wired to

drifting forge
#

Massochism time

#

The little add-on pipe on the new crossover is wrong for my car, so now I'm sitting here waiting for the paint to dry on the old one after i wirebrushed it clean so I can use that instead...

drifting forge
#

so...

left side of the engine bay is almost done, but my back gave out and it's getting dark.

ran out of the size of vacuum hose that I needed to do the purge delete

also, the maf delete is turning out to be a two pipe jobbie instead of a single pipe jobbie as

  1. the 45 degree elbow I have doesn't have long enough legs
  2. the angle of the airbox is just ever so slightly off to where it needs a second bend
  3. the inlet pipe is too small for the size of silicone hose, and it's sitting loose.

so now I need to wait till like tuesday/wednesday for the stuff I need to arrive

at least the RTV should fully cure by then, fingers crossed I get no leaks, I really don't want to take this shit apart again so soon.

Gonna put together the right side tomorrow

drifting forge
#

and its burped now. didnt see any leaks while it was running as I was burping it, gonna let it sit and see if it pools up like it used to again...

round skiff
#

Nice intake lmao

drifting forge
#

The vent sucker 5000

round skiff
#

I just disappointingly noticed I can't use the hood vent with the new intake

drifting forge
#

Anyway
So,
MAF gone
Evap solenoid gone
The lil solenoid before the MAP sensor that factory ECUs use to do scaling gone
The bonnet alarm switch that was broken and pointless gone.

#

Charcoal canister gone
A whole lot of vac lines gone

#

Waiting on some pipes and joiners to arrive to finish the intake and a lil breather filter for the fuel tank vent

round skiff
#

We intend to run as short IC piping as possible, so the turbo side will enter the fender right in front of the wheel arch. The hood vent is surprisingly far back, so in order to fit a box for the filter the box will have to be so far front it'll barely overlap the vent

drifting forge
#

The deed is done, but I'm not really happy with it. Gonna order a long aluminium tube and use that as the main body instead and just have the silicone as joiners rather than being the main body of the tube...

pearl oak
#

I wonder if anyone ever even reads that k&n sticker or just ignores it and rips off the filter with extreme prejudice if you took it to a non performance supporting shop

drifting forge
#

oh they definitely just chuck it, I posted a picture on one of the groups I'm and and had like 4 people ask me if the sticker is OEM because their airbox had it too, but obvs didnt have the filter inside lol

pearl oak
#

Lol

#

Yeah I swapped back to a non k&n filter when I had one fitted before every service and always said don’t bother changing the filter. I wasn’t ever charged for a filter but a few times they still swapped it so I just got random new filters that I’d never use

prime saddle
#

i feel like there is better options out there than k&n, i dont understand the benefit iver a washable vs normal air filter. so i personally would also check it

round skiff
drifting forge
#

those are genuine bri'ish made name-brand JUBILEE clips!

round skiff
#

I wonder how much it would cost to send our adapter to you

#

As it's soon obsolete to us

drifting forge
#

actual, jubilee brand jubilee clips

round skiff
#

With that you'd only need an XL 45 bend

drifting forge
#

yours doesnt use the stock air box does it?

round skiff
#

It does currently

pearl oak
drifting forge
#

oh... damn, would have been cheaper than all I've spent on silicone hoses and joiners lol

round skiff
drifting forge
#

was gonna ask where your throttle cable is but you're drive by wire arent you

round skiff
#

Yeah

#

State of the art Legacy diesel throttle body

drifting forge
#

yeah, i really want to do that sooner rather than later. that throttle cable of mine is just sort of dangling willy nilly in the engine bay

round skiff
#

Yeah same

#

Does clean up the bay as a whole

drifting forge
#

have a check what the cost to send that adapter to the UK would be. not this month tho, I'm flat broke now

round skiff
#

UPS site sucks but it looks like they'd ship it for 16€

drifting forge
#

sounds good, think up a price total and dm me your paypal and I'll send you the money after payday at the end of the month, then just send it out whenever you get the chance after that

round skiff
#

I don't have a paypal lol

drifting forge
#

ah....

#

revolut?

round skiff
#

Never heard

#

And I take you've never heard of Mobilepay

drifting forge
#

ugh, british banks don't use IBAN numbers and sending abroad directly is an absolute pain

round skiff
#

Wait do I have a paypal

#

I might have made an account years back

round skiff
#

Because card payments never go through for some reason

drifting forge
#

i can't even send money directly to my moms bank account in romania, it's an asbolute pain. british banks use sort codes and account numbers which are not in teh IBAN system

round skiff
#

How is it that no other country in the world wants people to send money easily

drifting forge
#

it's an abolute pain

#

if I want to send money to my uncle in the US I have to do it thru paypal

#

if I want to send money home to romania I have to do it thru revolut

round skiff
#

Does paypal take a cut on goods and services

drifting forge
#

yeah, can't remember what, I'm happy to add the cost of the on top or just send it as friends and family at no charge

round skiff
#

Does it go to the Paypal account or to the linked bank account?

drifting forge
#

goes to the paypal account and then you have to withdraw it to your linked bank account, withdrawal is free (at least on mine)

round skiff
#

Yeah I just found that, I don't think I've ever used the Paypal site

#

I did have my card linked but not my bank account

drifting forge
#

Not too shabby after all...

#

Zip tied the throttle cable to one of the skinny coolant hoses for now

round skiff
#

You want me to send the old intercooler in the same package? Lol

#

Looking clean, though

drifting forge
#

Mmmmmmmmmaybe

#

This one is rubbing against the strut brace a bit

#

But then I'd have to get another IAT bung welded in

round skiff
#

Well with mine you don't have to worry about that, because there's no way the brace will fit with it

#

But it does already have a thread for an IAT

drifting forge
#

Yours is missing the lil pipe I need for the dump valve tho, bigsad

round skiff
#

It's underneath the IC

#

There's a 32mm barb for it

drifting forge
#

my horrible hose cutting aside, much happier with the SUCC TOOB 2.O

round skiff
#

A definite improvement

#

Still needs T-clamps

drifting forge
#

i wonder if it will make any difference in sound

drifting forge
round skiff
#

Still needs T-clamps

drifting forge
#

hehe, gonna put this sticker on the succ toob

#

i need to find a better solution to keeping the throttle cable in place than the ziptie to the coolant hose it's currently got...

round skiff
#

I have a solution for you

drifting forge
#

e-throttle will come later

#

when I have the money for the ethrottle

and the 253 manifold

and the top feed injectors

and all the fuel hoses I'll need to make for the injectors

and the bigger turbo

and the remap dyno session

round skiff
#

I should order the 253 mani

drifting forge

tomorrow, I break the car again
