Planning to use the Kansai-Hiroshima railpass on a solo trip next year, and I noticed that the successor to the Setouchi Marine View train on the Kure line, the "etSETOra sightseeing train", will be running on the Monday I will be in the area.

Has anyone here taken this train before, or any thoughts about how scenic the Seto sea views are when riding the Kure / San-yo line between Kure & Onomichi ( using the local trains) ?

I haven't been on this specific one, but I went on a very similar type of sightseeing train in Shikoku and it was fantastic even though the weather wasn't ideal and there was limited English support. Can't remember the full procedure for reservations but I needed to have physical tickets delivered to my hotel for pickup the day before and the pass only partially covered the cost, basically it covered the cost of the onboard meal. I wasn't able to reserve a specific seat so there's a also a chance you might not be facing the sea if it's the same sort of reservation process.
The Inland Sea is also one of my favourite parts of the country, I've probably visited around 3/4 of its perimeter and a number of islands by this point. Reminds me a lot of Greece if you've ever been to the Aegean.
