I've encountered this error twice including this time and the last time it got fixed by itself. Coming from a non-supported country, I have to use a vpn to get into games and I usually turn it off after getting in the game. If I use the vpn its extremely laggy and I get heavy delays, but when I turn it off the game stops.

Here is something you can try to get a better connection without having to turn off the vpn, search up where the server is located and try to get a vpn to the country (or as close as possible)

Since youre using proton vpn, you could try to get it to fail or disconnect on its own instead of turning it off manually
Or maybe you could try playing for 15 minutes and then turning it off
Not sure which one would work, consider it a trial and error thing

I tried the 'test network' option on geforce now but It doesnt show anything (when im not using a vpn). Does that mean I cant connect to the geforce servers from my location? (It has shown my network status before this problem started)

Also btw if you are using bluetooth i heavily recommend turning it off, it makes it even more laggy
