#Cannot launch Battlefield through EA App

Battlefield 2048 is unavailable through Steam but is now available again through the EA App, so I bought the EA Plus subscription which includes access to Battlefield 2048 to be able to play it until the Steam version is available again. This should work, but when I lauch the EA app version, it says I can't play it because I own the Steam version? This shouldn't be a problem as it should give me access to the EA app version of the game.

Check, via EA Play tab (or within EA App store) if you are able to add the game to your Library.
Then, you should see both versions.

vagrant yew
#

And when I press manage it says I already own the standard edition

#

When I press "add to cart" it says it costs 53.99 euros

molten field
#

Also, you're 6 years ahead. It's 2042. 😅

Jokes apart, that's really weird. Add a game to your EA App should display both versions, in your Library, allowing GFN to start the correct version.

Access your Library tab there and check if both versions are displayed.

Also, don't use the Reply button. It will ping me and it's not necessary, as it's a dedicated topic for your question. oui

vagrant yew
#

oh ok

#

It only shows the steam version it seems

#

But it's unavailable because it actually has the EA version installed

#

Because that's what I started

molten field
#

Yeah. I launched EA App locally, and it shows only the Steam version, as well. I also own the Steam version + EA App sub version, just like you.

vagrant yew
#

Hmmm

#

Maybe I could log Steam out and see if that fixes it, but I'm not sure if that would keep my stuff in-game

molten field
#

Do the following...
If it's possible, open EA App locally and find BF2042. Click on it and press Manage, then Add to your Library.

It will add the EA App version to your Library.

vagrant yew
#

Seems like a risky thing to try

#

Ah yes

#

I'll log out of Geforce Now first

molten field
#

Yep. Close your GFN session and try it.

vagrant yew
molten field
#

Ouch. Check if there's a pending update or something like that.
EA App is bad.

vagrant yew
#

I doubt it

#

I don't even have a link that opens EA app

#

I have to use the installer every time

#

It will just tell me I have it installed already

#

I'm going to restart my computer

molten field
#

Yeah, reboot your PC and try again. If not...

In any case, I believe you can do it within your GFN session. Your Library is still accessible from there, so it shouldn't be a problem.

vagrant yew
#

Sorry didn't mean to ping you

#

Not even the option to download it???

#

Huh strange, I also have Battlefield V on Steam but that is available from EA

molten field
#

Did you do that, at first?

vagrant yew
#

Only the "buy another edition"

molten field
vagrant yew
molten field
#

EA App is really, really terrible.

So, according to the launcher, this version is already added to your Library.

vagrant yew
#

But for you it doesn't say that you have the standard edition from Steam

#

Yes, but then it doesn't show it in my library

#

And this is available???

molten field
#

Very weird, isn't it? THINKING

vagrant yew
#

Yes

#

Mostly annoying

#

Does Bf2042 work for you?

molten field
#

Like... If you try to download locally, which version it will download?
Steam or EA App.

molten field
vagrant yew
#

I don't even have a download button for Bf2042

molten field
#

Oh my days.

vagrant yew
#

EA finds the most creative ways to annoy their customers :/

molten field
#

For some reason, it's not giving you the possibility to use this version. EA App is fooling around.
Doesn't matter if we own Epic, Steam and EA. The ability to choose which version, should be there.

vagrant yew
#

but I don't see it

molten field
#

On GFN:

#

I will do what the launcher asked to.

#

As you can see, I have only the Steam version on my account:

#

Through GFN, I am also unable to see the button to add the EA App version to my Library.
Locally, it's there.

#

I went back to my local PC, and added the game from there. And now, I will try to run on GFN.

#

And it worked:

vagrant yew
#

bizarre

molten field
#

That screenshot showing that you don't have the button to add to your library was on GFN or locally?

vagrant yew
#

It's the same for both

#

I sent a message to EA support

#

I got an automatic reply saying someone will contact me

molten field
#

Yeah, because they shouldn't lock you from adding that version. As you can see, if we add, it work just fine on GFN.

vagrant yew
#

yea

vagrant yew
#

So I tried to see if it works on my desktop

#

And it's the same thing

#

Still don't have an option to add to library

#

But on this computer I have the Steam version installed

#

So I tried to run it

#

And it just crashes every time, and then immediately starts to validate itself

#

Every time

molten field
#

We see so many problems, but less solutions. Isn't it? 😅

Are you still waiting for EA Support to reply to your ticket?

vagrant yew
#

Also it doesn't even let me add more notes to the case I opened

vagrant yew
#

Also I figured out I can do what you did with Bf2042 for the other Bf games and get the EA App version

#

It just isn't an option for Bf2042

molten field
#

It's crazy, indeed. Nothing should stop you from doing so.
If it was already added, you would see the EA Play label above, not Steam. (BF2042)

vagrant yew
#

Yup

vagrant yew
#

Okay I found that I can't add the EA version for NFS Heat and Titanfall 2 either

molten field
#

I don't think it should be some kind of region restriction. Let's see what EA Support will say.

vagrant yew
#

I don't think so either, I assume you are French and you don't have the issue, so I doubt it would be different here in Belgium

#

Also all of these games are in the list of EA Plus games for me

molten field
#

Belgium is the country that banned loot boxes, right? Probably there are different versions, but it should work just fine for you.

That's really weird.

vagrant yew
#

Yes, both in Belgium and the Netherlands this was a problem

#

Does Bf2042 have lootboxes in other regions?

molten field
#

I don't think so. Only BP.

vagrant yew
#

I only know about the Battlepacks in Bf1

#

But these are available here as well

molten field
#

To make sure...
If you have a VPN, try to set it to France or Netherlands. Then, open EA App and check if the download + add to the library will be there.

vagrant yew
#

EA Support just told me it's a known issue that a lot of players have and they are working on fixing it

#

-_-

#

Also he said to keep an eye on their social media to get the message on the teams progression

#

but the EA twitter account he linked doesn't have any updates on problems being solved

molten field
#

Oh my word. EA is terrible.

vagrant yew
#

Someone on the r/GeForceNow subreddit said he had the same problem I did and he solved it by unlinking his Steam account

#

So i figured maybe I should try that

#

But then it gives me this whole message and I seriously doubt it's a safe thing to do

#

According to the linked EA Help article,

If you unlink your platform account and link it back to your original EA Account, you may be able to get access to your stuff if you still can access the account.

#

Which really doesn't give me a good feeling

#

I also have other EA games that I have from Steam

#

So I really don't want to lose progress for any of those

molten field
#

I believe it's safe.
What bothers me, is the fact that I also have my account linked. Me and you, exactly the same settings, sub, etc.
And I was able to add the game and play on GFN.

vagrant yew
#

So it's another EA bug

molten field
#

Yeah. cowboy_sad

vagrant yew
#

I disconnected, but it still has the same thing going on
