#Assassin's Creed II & Brotherhood not launching

Upon starting either AC II or Brotherhood (Deluxe Versions and the base versions), Steam and the Ubisoft Connect window pop, saying the game is starting. However, as soon as the game executable boots, the GFN stream just shuts itself down.

you need to connect it to the platform where it is suported which means you have to buy it from that platform. for example the Brotherhood Deluxe version is only supported on Ubisoft platform only. No steam or epic.

that makes no sense because technically i own all the ac games on ubisoft connect, since even if you start it from steam, it opens ubisoft connect. i've done the same for the deluxe editions, which were only on ubisoft connect and not steam, the same outcome still.

If you bought a game from Steam which launches Ubisoft, you still own it on Steam since it has the activation code on Steam's end, not Ubi's.

right, but i can also launch it directly from ubisoft connect because it's already registered there. either way, no matter where i launch the game from, it immediately shuts down the gfn stream once the game pops up.

#

that's my problem. my problem isn't not being able to launch it with a specific launcher. no. my problem is that no matter where i launch it from, whether that be steam or ubisoft connect, the game itself doesn't open. for example, i get to see a small white window of the ac ii executable, but then immediately, the gfn stream stops and puts me back into the library. is that clear enough now?

Let me clarify one thing there...

Ubisoft games doesn't work like that. When you see the game in your UC library, he's still attached to the store you bought to.

If you bought the game on Steam, you still need/have to pick the Steam version on GFN app.

If you bought directly via Ubisoft store, you should pick the Ubisoft Connect version on GFN app.

It always has been like that and it's mentioned in their FAQs.

So, where did you buy these games? On Steam, Ubisoft Store or Epic Games?

What Raeken said. Me and a bunch of people already checked the Assassins Creed games and listed out which game on which platform and which edition. Ubisoft allowed some Assassins Creed games to be played on GFN if it's purchased from Ubisoft Connect only. Some allowed only on Steam. Some allowed on Epic, Steam, and Ubisoft. But you still need to connect it to the platform where you purchase it.

No launching the game from Steam and then connect to Ubisoft. Won't work.

But if you bought the game AC II on Steam and you connected it to Steam platform.. then you should be able to launch it. Cause that's the only platform the game is allowed to be played on. If you still can't connect to the game then you can file a ticket.

guys, i've done this many times with ac syndicate, odyssey, origins and valhalla. i own these games on steam, epic and ubisoft connect, however, i bought them from one single platform. for valhalla, i bought it on epic but i can directly launch it from ubisoft connect (i pick the ubisoft connect option in gfn instead of epic games) and it plays. in fact, there is no way to change graphics settings when you use the epic games option, since the game restarts; however, when you use the ubisoft connect option, even though the game restarts to apply graphics settings, it doesn't shut down the geforce now stream like it does with most games.

as for ac ii, like shown in the screenshot above, yes it seems to be only on steam. and yes, i do own it on steam, because i bought it years ago in physical form and registered the cd key, which registered itself to uPlay at the time, therefore i could launch it directly from uPlay (which is now ubisoft connect) instead of using steam. i do acknowledge that no matter which launcher i use, ubisoft connect also boots. that's not the issue here.

i'm repeating myself, the issue is, although i own the ac franchise on every platform in the PC side, i cannot launch ac ii and brotherhood, as soon as the game boots, the white window appears, the Geforce Now stream closes on itself. this is a technical issue with gfn and not with me not having the license to play the game, like you guys trying to explain to me something so irrelevant is honestly annoying

#

i can click on the "play" button in the gfn client and it does open, and NO, it doesn't say soemthing like 'you don't own this game in this platform' or whatever. i have it.

#

it doesn't matter which option i pick in the small ubisoft connect window btw

#

the outcome is the same

"I pick the ubisoft connect option in gfn instead of epic games) and it plays" - yea this doesn't work for me. it shouldn't work. for many of us actually. that's why a group of assassin creed players made that list last time. but since you seemed to be the only one who does access the game this way...then i have no idea.

that error is related to the game update. which means.. when they update...it will search for the game in that platform that is connected to your account.

you should just file a ticket with nvidia and see what they say.

Exactly. As I said, Ubisoft games always worked that way and they haven't changed.

I tried here and doesn't work for me. I'm still forced to launch the proper version to be able to play.

In 5 years of GFN, this the first time I see someone claiming that is able to do so.

As KnightsJ suggested, contact NVIDIA support, then:

Scroll the page down, and you will find the Live Chat and Ask us a Question links.

okay, i will prove how i can launch, let's say assassin's creed valhalla from ubisoft connect although i bought the game on epic games

#

This is the receipt on Epic Games Store, the place where I bought Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. Please do keep in mind the playtime count.

#

This is my Ubiosft account's transaction record. As you can see here, I bought only two of the installments in the franchise. However, I have played most of the franchise because I bought them from separate stores, just like AC Valhalla.

#

Now I'll send you a screen recording of me launching Valhalla with Ubisoft Connect from GFN, although as you've seen it, I have no history of purchasing the game on Ubisoft Connect, but Epic Games Store.

#

And you will see in the video that the Epic Games Store launcher does not launch because I opened the game directly from Ubisoft Connect. Please stick around until the end to see the playtime. (Note that my save file does not directly represent the time played.)

#

Just as further proof, you can see the Ubisoft Connect account linked to Geforce Now, whose name matches the one shown in the screenshots and the Ubisoft Connect in-game overlay.

vast cobalt
#

yea maybe that's why you have that connection error.. because of how you connect.

you can file a ticket with nvidia

#

connection error that is related to the game update

#

I have already done that and I'm expecting their response. I got really frustrated trying to explain myself to you guys because you guys kept saying that it is literally impossible to do what I've been doing for more than a year to play Valhalla.

vast cobalt
#

well so far only you connect from different platform with different dlc. that's why we can't understand it

crisp trail
#

I've recently checked AC Revelations if it suffers from the same fate, but to my surprise, it did launch from the Steam option, although I redeemed the game on Ubisoft connect years ago (I have the physical copy of the game for PC) and rebought it on Steam to have it in both places.

#

I think Ubisoft made things very complicated so I'm not really blaming the people over at nvidia for this.

vast cobalt
#

well you just have to patiently wait for nvidia to respond.

#

hopefully you wont' face this problem everytime ubisoft did an update on those assassins creed games

crisp trail
#

i hope that as well. and just when i wanted to replay assassin's creed ii... very upsetting but i'll make do with revelations, although it does a very mediocre representation of my culture and language 😅
