Ive been looking at other survival games that I could draw inspiration from and currently Im mostly trying to figure out what style of survival game the backrooms could be

#

Currently between the survival games I have looked at for inspiration I feel I can narrow them down into 2 broad categories.
-"Story based / Goal driven" - The games that could be examples of these would be "Ark Survival Evolved" and "Green Hell" for example. These style of games have an ultimate end goal, generally being to escape your current survival predicament. These styles of games vary in terms of how much stucture for story is provided but ultimatley the players have a long term goal they are attempting to reach. Multiplayer in these kinds of games tends to be cooperative but people also enjoy the pvp aspect of online servers.

-"Open ended / Large scale multiplayer" - The games that are an example of this would be games like "Rust" and "Dayz" where there is not particularly a storyline meant to be followed but rather the game expects players to engage with eachother to forge their own stories. These games usually have players exploring, Building a stronger base, and dominating the map. Multiplayer tends to be more focused towards the team building / pvp aspect from having large scale multiplayer.

I feel that a game about surviving in the backrooms would be primarily following the open ended / large scale survival type but at the same time too I would be worried that wouldnt keep people engaged with the backrooms having no long term goal other than to escape
