#Render based selection

I'm using physx for UI (non-uniform scaling support)
and will use unity.physics for the rest (knows how to setup)
my idea/concern is that keeping physx running is not optimal
therefore I am interested in render based selection for UI elements
so the question goes:
-is it feasible in unity?
-will it be more efficient?
-is there platform specific limitations?
