#How do you guys get game ideas?

Let me elaborate
I get a game idea and I say whoa that's fun and I start making a prototype. When im halfway done, I feel like its boring
Paper prototype?
what's the boring game idea you got?
The Art of Game Design. A Book of Lenses (book)
I got a lot of ideas, two of which I liked:
1)A game in which magic is a parasite, the player starts as a magic orb and infects victims granting them magic.
The player would have to escape the facility in which it was trapped
- A game in which the player unlocks powers by getting DNA from their enemies
Its not game design, its getting the idea to feel fun
I liked the ideas
I prototyped them
and I didnt feel that much fun so I quit halfways
How would you do it?
Must I plan my prototypes too?
Because I know what a prototype is, I dont know if it is bad to quit it halfway
what you need to do is come up with interesting and fun gameplay mechanics.
the 2nd idea just sounds like you're killing enemies and getting powerups so you can kill more enemies? sounds exactly like vampire survivors, actually
and the 1st idea depends heavily on what fun things you can come up with that you do during the escape (so i wouldnt prototype it until i have enough fun ideas for that)
its not bad to quit halfway. if you're not feeling it then you dont have to waste any more time on a bad idea
copy everything from an existing formula or genre and change one thing about it. Ideas are not the constraint, solving everything about them in a coherent way so it accumulates into a publishable game is hard. The more you innovate, the harder it gets. People mostly care about genres. So pick one and make your game a little bit more interesting than existing ones. If you can’t explain your novel idea as easily as one that only tweaks something that’s already understood, you’ll drown in an ocean of competent other games.
Thanks guys, I got another Idea so I will try do this one, its simple
Its a farming game
so it should be easy
you mentioned wanting a "fun and profitable" idea
the idea being just "a farming game" doesnt sound promising
