Hello everyone, for a new project I'm starting, I need to evaluate data transport solutions. Is Facepunch Steam Transport still an actively maintained and relevant option for NGOs, or is it widely considered legacy technology now? What modern alternatives there are now, i would like to use a steam transport based layer?

The Facepunch Transport is community maintained. It doesn't really have actively maintained support, just kind of gets bug fixes every once in a blue moon. I see a handful of people use it on here.

is there a specific reason why you want to use a steam transport based layer?

Thanks for the quick response! I prefer it because of the Steam Lobby integration and the fact that it's free if the project is published on Steam, at least i read it a while ago that their services are free

I'm not sure you need to use a Steam based transport for Steam Lobbies. Someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong.

No i don't think that is mandatory, but the workflow seems to be well integrated

Their services are free if your game is on Steam, correct. Not a bad reason at all to choose their services. There are free or mostly free alternatives as well. Epic Online Services are completely free and almost all of Unity's services have a very generous free tier.
