This looks similar to problems I've experienced where my raycasts have not been doing what I expected/intended.

Depending what's going on or trying to be done they can be tricky to figure out sometimes, in any case I'd start by taking advantage of Debug.DrawRay to see what's actually happening and you can work from there to figure out what's going wrong and how to get it right
