This is my first game, aspiring to be an MMORPG kinda game.
Currently planning for character customization, lots of skills, fairly large map, basic mmorpg stuff like player interaction and dungeons, probably mounts.

Please be patient with me, i started C# and Unity a week ago (as of me making this) and just started Blender yesterday. I am still very new to this but am willing to learn. Expecting this to take like a year prolly longer. Idk if this is enough info but if it isnt I will post more

#

I made this very bad map on Canva of a few of the kingdoms (just a way of splitting up the map) the black circled areas are mountain ranges

#

There will be more kingdoms im just planning to have those 3 for launch

#

Btw I have 0 clue if some of this is possible im just assuming it is cus Unity is super cool so

i mean, from a beginner to a (i think) a beginner, are u sure its a great idea to start your journey as a solo developer with a MMORPG game?
Idk, i saw a lot of videos where everyone was telling that you should start from the bottom, like doing some simple game and then, when u understand a little bit more about gamedev, you can start trying to do some amazing games.

Its just a message to let you think about it, because i am 100% sure that your idea its brilliant, but maybe the first game should be something easy, just to start off.

I considered it but like, im kinda hyper fixated on this so I am gonna start really simple with it and then kinda work it up, i have an idea for like a more simple 2d game i wanna make but i personally really wanna do this idea first

Hope this idea works out man

#

It sounds big

#

Very big for a first project

#

But big ideas are fun and if you have a good enough vision then there’s nothing stopping you except for reality

#

Sometimes u just gotta commit

Anyways imma do some modeling tonight, might post the results if they are good

Willsden Adventurer Guild Training Building (wip)

(this is where the game would start)

stable granite
#

Oh yeah uh

#

Idk where the name came from i just thought it was cool

#

i could probably come up with a better name but for rn its named Coven

just as a warning, mmorpgs are literally the hardest game genre to develop, but I wish you good luck!

I need to learn how to make materials, like good ones

stable granite
#

i had a moment tonight where i considered trying to make a 2d game first, but then i remebered I suck at pixel art, so back to blender for me

stable granite
#

So things I discovered tonight while working, the coding is the easy part

#

Yeah thats pretty much it

stable granite
#

Gonna play Nine Sols for “inspiration”

i hope that youre gonna make it! i wish you all the luck!

Mmorpgs have the highest cost of any game to build. Its an unrealistic starting point for a person starting out unless you have schooling to back it. Not saying it's not possible, as there have been games made in the past. But its not a good starting point.

That being said, you are in the best moment of drive you'll probably ever have short of being successful when you start off. So utilizing that excitement and drive is key to what you'll get done. Hopefully it turns out great for you. But don't be afraid to make changes as you go.

Wish you best of luck and success! 🤗

btw you can make others games while you're working on that, maybe smaller one, just to learn how things work.

stable granite
#

Yeah I was working on that

Currently im actually exploring the option of coding a game in java then using Java to kinda do what Minecraft does, the best way I know how to explain it is making a steel frame then draping graphics over it because as of right now my coding skills are pretty solid, but I suck at art

Im thinking I might make a couple smaller games with components that will go into Coven

Alright im scrapping that, as much as I would love to code in Java I am gonna use unity and just use placeholders until I figure out art

Alright started developing a normal rpg, will make a thread once I actually have some stuff to show off

#

i think you should definitely start small rather than an rpg being your first project...

#

youre gonna hit scope creep very quickly and it will burn you out fast

stable granite
#

Honestly its coming down to ideas, this is what I have ideas for so im going to do my best to execute it

little forge
#

trust me when i say this

#

ideas are not that great

#

anyone can have them, and you will have a million more ideas in a very short amount of time

#

everyone has a dream game they want to some day make but its important to realize the sheer the size and complexity of what your dream game is

#

ultimately youre free to do or create what you want but i promise you, you arent the first who hit the ground running with some crazy large-scale project and you wont be the last to eventually never finish it.

#

honestly, idk if I like unity 😭 it just feels kinda overwhelming and it just feels like overkill, I might just try raw coding something simple just to experiment

#

why did i say the same thing twice
