Hi! Martial Cardist, is a classic 2D arcade fighter re-imagined as a rogue-like deck-builder.
The main focus of the game is time management, actions are played on a timeline, and all actions require time to take effect. React to your opponents actions, try to evade attacks, while mounting your own offence. The main strategy elements come in terms of resource management, combo creation, and baiting the opponent into making mistakes.
This is a passion project / portfolio piece, but if it were to be made into a full game, it would be a rogue-like deck-builder, so strategy would further come in learning new moves, combos, and skills, upgrading your cards, and increasing your fitness. It starts with basic boxing techniques, but would give the choice to learn new martial arts (Each with different stances, moves, and combos).
All art and animations are just placeholders for now. I will be having a session with my boxing coach soon to film him, and make proper animations from that (as well as get more accurate time values).
I’m looking for as much feedback is possible, but right now the most important thing is if the game is fun, and if the main game play loop works.
Known Issues:
AI is dumb, and sometimes cheats
Some times actions do not cancel correctly when stunned
Some times actions duplicate when moved
Animations do not play correctly
Sometimes the timeline breaks and won’t place actions correctly
