#Recent change to coding-general killed its momentum by a lot.

It used to be an insanely active channel. There was ALWAYS someone to help. Now, there is extremely little meaningful activity.

I understand the reason for the change, but I think it's much easier for people to actually interact and ask for help in a normal, conversation style channel - and the pinned "general discussion" one isn't really cutting it.

I think it'd be cool if we could have a simple general-coding-questions channel that is a normal discord channel, and a coding-general for more complicated/advanced stuff in the current form.

I'm talking about it from the perspective of someone who often just "hung out" at coding-general, to stumble upon random problems and help people. The change really killed the vibe.

Like you cannot tell me that there are on average 5 issues per day in coding-general... it used to be so much more. It's a user mentality problem.

And let me be clear - I believe that a thread-only channel like the current solution is a good idea - but not instead of the old code-general, but as an addition. code-advanced, on the other hand, is a perfect candidate for this type of change.

"It used to be an insanely active channel" is just immediately false. Questions in #archived-code-general was very rarely an intermediate level question. Half the time we were redirecting people, telling beginners not to crosspost, or solving a very beginner question.
You can see this for yourself, use the discord search features and look "in: archived-code-general on: [insert a date]". Im seeing ranges of 70 to 150 messages per day for some Saturdays. While #1390346827005431951 had 110 messages 2 days ago.

Code general was never what you're describing it to be. Code beginner was always the way more active one

Should just have a clear non-forum-post(s) channel available tbh. Right now it's hidden and this means people have to make a post for very simple questions.

It used to be a lot more active in the past (maybe 1-3 years ago?), or so it feels. But I also don't like the forum thing in general. It does kill the momentum as you can't have more random/casual topics in-between the q and a.
