#I compared their history and entirely

Was the solution incorrect or advocating for poor practice?
Seems to me this could've been avoided easily. Something something regaining user trust.
I generally don't get into verifying chat generated looking code.
And they had history of trolling as well.
What? So he posted a solution that was correct and you warned him that next time it will result in ban
is it against the rules?
Again, this is just lies.
I've worked professionally with Unity for close to a decade, and with software development longer. And I took time out of my day to meaningfully contribute to the discussion and help out someone new to the engine. And what do I get? Threatened with a ban.
Do better
@forest hull who are you to determine what's useful to someone or not?
I compared their history and entirely customized solution with comments and everything was standing out from their previous posts.
that means absolutely nothing other than your own feelings
I was about to call out specifically your spoonfeeding behaviour, but your reaction reminded me of your previous trolling tendencies. Which resulted into an out of context ban warning.
I will try better to include full context next time.
You can't ban someone on feelings
Just because you 'feel' a specific way
dude posted a solution to someone
u felt a specific way, and you validated that by "comparing their history"
that's stupid.
If you have the emotional resiliance as a banana, don't be a mod
You are completely missing the point of this community. The idea to learn the skills to solve problems, not to spoonfeed solutions.
There's more than 1 way to learm?
You can absolutely learn by copying a solution, then analysing it
thats how i learned
like so many other people
it's #š»ācode-beginner . People also learn from examples.
Let's also not forget my reply wasn't removed for "Spoonfeeding", but for being "LLM generated". I explained how coroutines work, and gave an example to go along with it. If teaching is spoonfeeding I'm guilty of it.
Stack Overflow: famously useless because people "spoonfeed" you code.
I am a long time Unity user and supporter. This is so far from what I've come to expect it's crazy.
mate
99% mods are power hungry
when they have a bad day
they'll ban you
This is true for 99% of mods
When they are having a shitty day, they'll output that on the people online
Power hungry fasho
chill ur beans
tired of all this drama over nothing
okay
then don't read it?
Ohhhhhh what a solution
@reef sundial don't read the drama then, go and enjoy your day?
no need for such language
if ur really that angry, go for a nap maybe?
If someone becomes active after 7 months on the server just to spam on the server there's no reason of having them here. This is a learning community.
DARVO
Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender get out of here ya narc
bro will u chill out
jeez
ur going ballistic
go for a nap bro
fog 100% made a mistake, but it's not all that deep
anyway i do dersve that suspension i def am out of court, cause unlike these narcisists i am willing to be told i am in the wrong
dude might just be having a bad day
mate, go for a nap....
ur a bit angry
whenever my kids go for naps, they become less angry
So, someone whoās inactive canāt become active again, since itās considered spam? Donāt see that in the rules.
Do you have a Unity related question?
This is a thread, Osteel said to respond in the thread about comments to this. Iām asking about the rules of the discord server. Seems like you should know them?
That was the answer. If you are not here to learn Unity and just came here to troll there's no point of having you here.
This is not a Unity related thread.
That was not āthe answerā, thatās you being unhelpful :) and it was not a troll, it was you refusing to answer a rightfully upset person asking a question in a bit of an annoyed way about the rules in a thread about this very topic that does not interfere with the main channel whatsoever. However, i will go now for fear of being banned.
Again, they are not trolling
You just call all the critique ātrollingā and ban them for that
So, someone whoās inactive canāt become active again, since itās considered spam? Donāt see that in the rules.
You have an example right there. Disingenuous loaded question. That is definition of trolling.
And the answer is still the same. This community is for people who are here to learn. Not to respond to ragebait from reddit with spam.
I was not disingenuous not was that a loaded question. If anything it was a callout about how banning someone for āspamā because they were āinactiveā is bs and not against the rules. Yet, if there is a rule about it, please inform me. But i think you will just call it ātrollingā because you donāt like it.
Again, twisting it around. I clearly said they were banned for spam. And when anyone's first interaction on the server is to spam, they are not getting benefit of the doubt.
And the spam being?
And before you say Iām trolling, I have an interest in this as ill often go inactive for stretches of times then come back to the server.
If you engage in a counterproductive activity on a server and not here to learn, be it spamming insulting emoji or other off-topic stuff disturbing server activity, it is very much bannable.
ah okay, got you. Well I donāt know of any insulting emojis used, however it does to me seem like you are calling something spam that is not spam. I think it should be better clearly communicated in the rules section what is or isnt spam so it is not up to interpretation š
Not here to be combative at all, but if thatās the case then
#1319040550724308992 message
probably shouldnāt be here?
Crazy how someone was banned over answering a question and helping someone. As someone whoās been apart of this community for several years, I am baffled they would be punished for helping out a new user. Unity is already suffering from the higher ups, we should be better.
Iāve been here for over four years and this is the first time Iāve seen someone banned for helping another user.
Happy to see this sentiment, hopefully the bad moderation is addressed
You are being pretty unreasonable here tbf throwing your toys out the pram after being (rightfully) called out.
As for coming here to ālearnā, we all know discord channels might be the worst ways to learn a tool. Endless repeated conversations & threads being lost to the ages due to search being garbage on here, and then banning people that do actively help maintain these conversations.
People come for troubleshooting or quick examples to grab from others then disappear for weeks/months again due to the noise. You ban reasoning falls apart again lol
As for coming here to ālearnā, we all know discord channels might be the worst ways to learn a tool
Completely agree, this discord should be about teaching people how to learn and debug their problems. That's why we have these handy commands. Like !Learn.
:teacher: Unity Learn ā
Over 750 hours of free live and on-demand learning content for all levels of experience!
And pinned resources in each channel.
yes, and thats good when applicable, but donāt threaten to ban someone out of the blue for something you āfeelā, then go on a banning spree when made fun of. weāre (mostly) adults here, lets act like it and be civil on all sides, at the end of the day weāre just trying to make games lol, nothing is as unserious as game development
This has been answered already. Warning was based not just on the answer, but on their other response and previous disingenuous behavior.
I regret not providing full context right away.
Could you provide full context now?
Warning was based not just on the answer, but on their other response and previous disingenuous behavior.
Right, Iām asking what behavior warrants deleting a helpful (new) response
I would also be interested in this, fwiw.
I guess you're a late one. You are welcome to read all previous interactions about it.
I did, and itās not clear to me, which is why I asked for context or perhaps an explanation
It's not clear because the thread is entirely just an excuse against the real reason why, which is just ego. @forest hull felt bad, so they banned someone for using reactions. If using reactions was a real problem, it could just be disabled.
I think there are 2 separate issues, @vast tangle posted instructions on coroutines. His post was deleted and he was threatened with a ban.
someone else was banned for emoji spam. I and asking on the first topic
You are mixing two separate issues entirely. Banning trolls that descended from the ragebait @vast tangle posted is a separate issue.
"Ragebait" aka a screenshot of the conversation exactly as it happened. You're unqualified for whatever volunteer position this is, a liability to Unity as a business, and a hindrance to people trying to learn the engine.
You're right that I mixed up the two issues, but the root cause of both of them is still the same ego fueled moderation
what is wrong with community managers/moderators recently
They need some vent knowing they are grown adults reduced to being unpaid forum managers
Yes
