yuh
which distro
only laptop i had wouldnt run windows
manjaro
tho am getting gentoo on a new system
so far i got the window manager working-ish
is that unity?
oh yeah it was fun
if so that is very blank
no lol thats the gentoo install
fresh after compiling sway (i3 for wayland)
I released how I downloaded it here
https://discord.com/channels/489222168727519232/1318287803662077952
very cool for new users
havent setup the config yet so no background or nothing
only the "error: invalid config" line on the top
dude
i tried getting it through yay
that didnt work
i tried getting it through a download
that didnt work
I just got the download from a official forum
eventually realized i had to run the package as root, install the editor, then copy the files over out of a root dir
because it kept trying to install in i think tmp
which somehow downloaded unity hub 3.10.0
im running ythe uhhh 6000 version?
dont rember
I run 2022
👌
I switched to arch like 1-2 days ago so I'm learning the ropes
from windows mind you
hows it going so far
oh wow ok
straight to the adult pool
i went from windows, to ubuntu, to manjaro, to now gentoo
so far it is going well, I had to learn quick lmao
I didn't even know how to install things
tbh manjaro wasnt that big a stepup over ubuntu
only mildly eh part was figuring out how i3 works
but the konsole is straight forward
cuz im a big boy and i dont use baby interfaces like kde plEHHHsma
dude at some point you're gonna prefer it over whatever gui windows can give you
bro when I first came over, I was so confused on how to get the internet to work
i cannot go back to windows search when i can ls -R | grep "main.py"
yeah same
tho on gentoo
ubuntu and manjaro handled it for me
tho ubuntu had the minor hiccup of "internet is suddenly broken have fun fixing it"
rip
"did you turn it off and back on again?"
for gentoo the install usb had a net-setup script which did everything for me
except it didnt persist through reboots and if you chrooted into your laptop (instead of sitting in your usb userspace) without using it you're now stuck without internet
did eventually figure out the dark arts of "download networkmanager" tho

I had to look up a tutorial because the documentation for arch is wack
networkmanager is amazing
it is
aig cool
theres some people that will tell you its bad
im not knowledgable enough to form an opinion myself
all i've heard is "uhhhh it doesnt follow the standard exactly"
arch seems to be working well so far, the gaming part of linux is what I have to get used too
definitely more bugs in linux
yeah proton seems good
beyond that wine seems to work more often than not
generally
COUGH COUGH THE FUCKING GAME ENGINE THAT STILL RUNS ON IE11
I heard bottles is good
havent heard of it myself
