#Someone who works at Unity has to be active in this Discord
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
There are active staff members in specific channels. The admins aren't active in public/open channels but are available for administration.
What's the actual purpose of this feedback?
There should be a little role on the right that says Unity
godot foundation, which has somewhere between $8m and $15m of product development in it, has it
Unity has $2b-$3b of product development in it. Should I be able to Matthew Bromberg? I can directly message the CEOs of many companies on Discord, many of them with $1b+ market caps.
As far as I can tell, there's a Unity Multiplayer Networking community Discord, and Unity developers are active there and labeled. So what is the issue with this specific server? I don't know.
here is Stellar Developers Discord. If I can directly message Graydon Hoare, who invented Rust, I ought to have been able to directly mesage Josh Peterson, although he left Unity for Modular
But at Modular, where he now works. This is on a Saturday
So I understand there is a Unity Admin role. I'm being pretty unambiguous here. If Graydon Hoare has sent 600 messages on the Stellar Discord, there has to be a Unity engineer, who works on the core product and not the multiplayer websites, who has sent at least 600 messages.
"Someone who works at Unity has to be active on the Discord."
There are Unity employees here with at least 600 messages.
Unity has hundreds of employees. It needs a little Role list like these other companies do.
Considering rules of this discord server, what would one do with such a list?
I welcome a Unity developer writ large to be active here. Just one. I used to be active on this server, and I cannot recall once a Unity editor, engine, etc. engineer being active. Only the guys making the multiplayer websites.
I can think of a bajillion reasons why I would want to correspond with an engineer on any of this stuff.
I think there was once a DOTS PM, but you know, it's crickets now.
Mohammad Norouzi, the inventor of Imagen and the CEO of Ideogram, you know, he's active.
You can message him, he will ignore you if it's nonsense or basic stuff. Right? I don't think any highly educated person needs specialized knowledge to handle a messaging service.
Graydon Hoare is active! These are just people I can think of.
What a bizarre misunderstanding of the purpose of this Discord
Unity has hundreds of employees. It needs a little Role list like these other companies do.
The role isn't hoisted because it would promote people randomly DM'ing staff—which is against the conduct and intended use of the server. But staff are still tagged with a role!

What on earth is with your ego? Not every server is set up with the same intent, and this one is a community server, where staff can choose to contribute on their own time. It's not a direct line to developers, it's not an official support channel. There's absolutely no reason to provide a way to promote the list of staff to others, and it shouldn't need to be a requirement that staff ignore a whole bunch of DMs constantly.
There is close to zero reason to DM Unity staff through this Discord.
- If you have a question, ask here normally.
- You may be lucky to get a staff answer.
- You may be lucky that staff care about your input and ask for updates or pings for similar issues.
- If you're not getting enough visibility, ask on Unity Discussions.
- If you have a bug, report it using the bug reporter.
- If you want to give further visibility to the bug, make a post on Unity Discussions.

There are a number of active staff members, if you're not seeing them that's your problem.
most discords that label their official staff, the staff get constant pings by kids who think it's funny (not a huge deal individually and most of them only make that mistake once, but there's enough of them that it's a near-constant thing) as well as from people who don't realise just how simple their question is, not knowing that virtually anyone could've answered it.
Just waiting for someone to ping the CEO and ask them to fix their jumping code for their gorilla tag mod
UnityJuju, Ecuzillo, and many other staff are active all the time. I have actually seen you have a conversation with staff before...
