#TOS Non Game Application Ticket for Installer/Hub use of Networking
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Sure! when creating the ticket it said it could take up to a month to get back to me, fingers crossed its quicker. Either way I will post the response here!
This was my ticket questions
I am going over the TOS and upon getting to this part ;
16.2 Use Restrictions
I came across this :
(m) Use any Offering to provide or assist any content delivery network functionality;
My use case for Unity is non game application development. My plan is to create a few different applications all coexisting together. The hub/installer application is my primary concern here since I would need to create an application much like Unity Hub. But from the above notice you cannot use any offering in my case Unity and its network capabilities to provide or assist any content delivery aka other applications from a cloudflare server.
So my question to you is am I allowed to create non game applications with Unity that include the addition of an application that is setup in a way to be an installer/hub for the other applications?
end of ticket
Practically my applications I want to create from the use restrictions page seems fine to create, but the only problem is creating an installer with unity that hooks into a server using there sockets/port integration.
@forest stream also up above you stated that you would use Godot or some Redot for applications.
Is there a reason why you would pick these. To me the TOS may in the long run fu** me if I am not careful with Unity.
Just curious if you had any experience with it or why in your eyes you would use it.
Over the alternatives.. Either Unity, and if not Unity i'd use Gadot. (redot is just a popular fork of it)
def not gamemaker or unreal
myself am interested in the tos reply, b/c id also like to use Unity in an application format..
Oh got ya. I wasnt sure if you used Unity for this type of use case in the past and if there was some flaw with it.
being familiar w/ it already.. and using the System.IO you can achieve anything i could ever seeing myself wanting to do w/ one
ive made little prototypes and experimented using transparency overlays but nothing professional
not any out of the normal complaints using Unity.. unreal would be a headache imo, and gadot would probably be my next alternative if i couldnt do it in Unity
That makes sense. I used unity for around 1 year a long while back, and back when I was a game dev I worked closely with Unreal for a few years, and Cryengine and Lumberyard for even more.
Now that I am moving into a different field but still close enough I can use the same tooling I am trying to find the right engine to use that is not fully centered on 3D since the applications are going to be 2d focused.
Hey @forest stream, I forgot about this for a while, but at the end I went to godot for the project. (worked really well for non game applications). But checking the ticket its still open 23+ days later. I am unsure quite how long it takes unity to get back on these things, but I most likely wont look at the unity ticket anymore (it was pinned in my web browser). Sorry I couldn't get the info for you as I do not need it anymore. I wish unity was quicker with support because that was a make or break for my project since I was not waiting well now 23+ more days to get a response.
