maybe start by adding a locked door, where you have to find a button for to open the door.
The Button is locked inside a cage and you have to find a key.
But there is a note inside the cage that you can read from outside which says..."hello andy, i lost my key somewhere in the kitchen, i hope you can find it"
or something simple for the start ^^

i am wanting to make a sort of grounds keeper type vibe from it too, like being forced to come down into this dark damp place underneath the world to be trapped inside
which i'll admit, sounds a bit cliche
btw tower alchamist looks super cool! i love the style, super charming
I guess you should think about telling a story why you are forced to go down there?
Maybe your girl is pregnant, your car hit an engine failure and you find this little hut in the forest and you try to find some fuel. And then you suddenly see a door in the ground of the hut and you are wondering, if there is some fuel down there

are you doing it alone as a hobby project?
yeah, unfortunately, i don't really have much of a "team", and its more or less a vanity project yeah, for now
i can just recommend to think very small
from the beginning
dont make the same mistake we did and like 90% of hobby devs do π
we were thinking about.. okay lets make a towerdefense, that should be easy

ha, yeah true, i like the story building behind game dev alot, but i do need to build a game that FEELS good
start with a plan, what do you want the game to feel like and then start with a simple story.
and i guess, if you have a story, the rest comes to mind alone
hm, the plan would be to first make a simple beginning, a task at hand to complete
any game needs a task right?

But i mean more basic:
Why does the player have to do it?
Are there Enemys in the game?
Can the player shoot or use weapons or is it just s creepy puzzle game
from the point where you add NPCs it gets much more work ^^
i would love to have enemies, but i don't really know where to start learning how to model any of that, i'm not too amazing at that kind of art, i'd really love to learn
probably would be good to start with references
maybe you find some assets in the store
not a bad idea
