Pretty noice. Grass quads however are very noticeable in such a bright desolate settings.

Ah, yeah those are much better given the depth and variety. The grass quads can still be useful for LOD, but otherwise they do stick out like a sore thumb.

Red Dead Redemption has some great references for desert environments and as you can see they do a lot of 3D grass renders and a whole lot of them at that.

I can maybe count like 10 or so with different rotations so shouldnt be hard to batch

I'd wouldnt worry too much about performance and just get it looking good first
