Me and couple of friends are arguing which one is better for designer people on our team. I would like to hear your opinions.

Hard to say which is "better" as they both do mostly the same thing functionally.

I personally prefer working with GitKraken because I enjoy the GUI for understanding branches.

However GitHub desktop has the benefit of being free, for private repositories at least.
You have to pay for GitKraken Pro if you want to view private repos

Fork is my favourite.
Out of these two... either work, you learn the interface and steps within it and you're done

I use fork here as well!

Thank you for your answers! Did not know about fork. Will make sure to check it out.

The only downside to fork, is it can be a bit laggy with big projects. So you just need to be patient with it from time to time

# bold shadow I have experienced no lag! What part of it lags for you, I can browse huge repos...

It's mostly just when I go to check in files on bigger projects. It kind of freezes and cycles for a few minutes - sometimes 5 or 6 at worst. Especially if I'm checking in asset packs or something with like 20k files. No complaints though, just a bit different coming from sourcetree 😄

I did buy fork though and keep it pretty up to date. So I'm not sure if its the number of repos I have in the project list in fork, or just the size. But it's been a bit that way for me since I started using it. You have me wondering if I should troubleshoot it though

At least if you get those issues you can always easily open the cli. GitKraken falls apart with large pushes and if you hit an error it's not modal or persistent anywhere in the UI

#

So it just fails and is in a tiny once off popup

It's still a fantastic tool compared to sourcetre

#

Yeah, and in my case, I just check the files in and let it run in the background while I do work. So if it runs a bit slow it doesn't impact me

#

And we support a small developer putting time into a tool, 🙂

Not one of the options, but I prefer tortoisegit since it's integrated directly into the windows explorer itself, the downside is, of course, it's windows only

I like GitHub Desktop quite a bit! Been using it for a long time and I really enjoy the straightforward simplicity. If I need to do anything complex I can use cmd line elsewhere.
