Nobody will hire a teenager as a full time employee
-
You find jobs by searching online, on websites like LinkedIn, Indeed and finding a list of local studios and checking their job postings
-
You need a well made, and presentable portfolio
Video Game industry can be pretty hard to get into, even more nowadays with all the layoff we have seen.
As a piece of advice, I suggest that you looking for something else while searching for a job in video game.
Yes, portfolio is an absolute must, especially if applying without relatable education.
How to find a job
6 years Game development with couple games published and have good understanding of whole industry and tech but couldn't find jobs.
its better for you to get internships or work for people for free
does that means that the hiring in game industry is lower than web development?
Why?
With so little jobs, and more people than ever trying to get into the industry (just look at the size of this server for example), the ability to find a career down this path is becoming more and more impossible. For those who need to make an income (and not some teen looking for a summer job), finding alternative and more stable income options is becoming a priority.
As to why you should find an internship? Because you're 18 and no studio is hiring a teenager as a full time employee.
- you are 18 y.o, its difficult to find legal jobs.
- Game dev market is still fked
thats a known story for a long time
you can get a job web dev just learning in 6mos-1year

Oh okay thanks!
honestly i feel like game making is now more prerably a hobby than a profession considering the industry state
Company, I doubt it. What about freelance? Upwork?
But I'm an adult ;-;
Possible if you are "good enough".
What are youe goals though?
Earn money? Portfolio? Experience?
A full time carreer out of my own game. I wolely understand that's not happening from the getgo, and that I'll need a job for income
How's #1223304450882666537 for portfolio?
I know it's nowhere near presentable quality, but it will be in a month. I'm just asking what kind of stuff people are looking for in portfolios, what will make them go "oh this guy knows how to code his shit"
If your goals to earn money, find a person who wants to make a game, then you offer your service
The earnings pretty huge
The only people I've evert stumbled upon who "want to make a game" are totally incapable of paying more than like, 200 bucks for it
That is to say, not serious people
And another thing, because I know you can answer this. Will knowing Fusion make it easier to find a job/contract? Since fusion is relatively new, one would think that the service pool is small right now
I get paid 360 usd per week
The person is has a company and want to gamified his company
Gamification/Metaverse is your key
comically rolls eyes
well, in terms of work I don't really care what it is
also, multiplayer/netcode skills is in high demand
:D ...
Well, I guess I'll keep pursuing Fusion, multiplayer games are what I want to do anyway
Thanks for the info
Join the GDN Discord Server, there is a channel called industry-jobs and paid-projects, there are multiple chances to find a ok-well paid job to do whil youre searching for an "real" job on indeed or local platforms, dont think to get one fast tho, especially if youre just got 18.
you could also search upwork or create a upwork profile and look for unity developer
thats how i funded myself in between my last job and my current one
