My first game was released on Steam recently, and the lessons I've learned about game development as a whole have been stark
I will summarize them as such:
- it always takes at least 33% longer than you expect to finish something, even if it seems small or simple
- even with optimal marketing strategies leading up to release, you still need to give the process time to allow for organic growth to occur
- without any marketing at all, your game is essentially lost in the void of "New Releases" on the Steam store until it hits 10 reviews, from that point it receives more exposure in the promotional algorithm until the people it's exposed to stop buying it
Give your games time ! ! !
It's okay to not be an overnight success
Just enjoy the process, keep learning, and keep moving forwards .
