what about the cpu
is it fine for unity development?
or is more ram the only thing
my bad
thats already a decent amount of ram ofc more is always better but its much better than 16gb
you have 64gb ram right?
what apps can you have running simultanously without chocking the memory?
I can play a game while editing video and also working on a unity project
ok thats nice
but are you sure the CPU and GPU in this laptop is fine?
I dont know laptops very well, seems good i7 is strong.. Maybe i9 if you can afford it
I use Ryzen so I dont know much about intels
64gb ram laptops costs around $3k 👀
how far would you say i get with 32gb ram?
can i work on a unity project, play a game at the same time, and talk in discord with friends at the same time?
depends You'd have to try it
32 is decent amount for it
laptops just need very much a lot of cooling or else they can throttle
Benchmark a game you want to replicate, if the laptop can run it on max, you can make it.
Throwing up random stats and asking if it's enough is not going to be measurable.
Yeah, like my laptop is an i7, 2070 ti, and 32gb ram. More than enough for my VR projects. My desktop is an i9, 2070 ti, 64gb ram. But gets periodically throttled for cpu cooling. Haven't cared enough to deal with it.
But an i7, 8gb, on a built in gpu is more than fine for a standard mobile game, 2d game or even most 3d titles. IMHO.
So everything in context for sure.
If you want to play it safe, get an i9, 4080 and 64gb of ram. I've been debating upgrading both but there just isn't a lot of practical reason other than I want it 😄
#💻┃unity-talk message this is the computer in question
wanted to check if this would be enough for most common tasks game devs do
There are no most common tasks. The common tasks for someone making a flappy bird mobile clone is drastically different from someone creating a first person shooter in an open world and raytracing.
Yeah, as everyone has said, the specs are kind of project dependant. But that's in-line with the specs we give new devs on the team. And would chew through most anything reasonable you go after.

what specs would that be overall?
fair enough
because i'm new, idk what i'm going to do in game dev, as of now im interested in making third person games that're a bit more realistic in graphics, but this is just what i want to do as of now, that might change in a month or two after i start getting into game dev with unity, i might find other games more fun and interesting to do 🤷♂️
So start working on it with what you got? If the experience becomes untenable, see which aspect needs boosting, if it doesn't, don't 🙂
