There's more clarity in the section UPDATE Statement from WētāFX that everyone should make sure they read

Yeah basically just scroll to the bottom where the actual statement info is at.

Hmmm, seems like this is just sorta unity wanting to refocus on what's making it money rather than trying to expand horizontally

#

also, good on them and weta to help those effected find new jobs

#

if this is the "huge layoff" they were talking about in the other thread, than this is hopefully the best outcome outta all this

#

only time will tell tho, wish nothing but the best for all those that are effected with these cancelled deal

Unity hired a lot of those people from Weta in the first place though?

There is a big difference between them saying that to the press and actually doing it

Unity would be very fucking dumb to say on thing and not follow through with it

#

They're on thin ice after everything

#

Not even thin, the ice has melted

They're on the edge of the rink

the deal with weta fx here seems to be they're cutting the weta digital team but letting weta fx hire them back and develop the tools in house

#

otherwise weta fx wouldn't have any support

#

but somehow unity still owns the tools which doesn't make much sense if they're focusing on games, couldn't they just sell weta digital back to weta fx?

I gotta be one of the few around lately that expects them to do completely fine, even if choices made in order to raise profits make some people unhappy along the way. Unite showed that I may be right

Well, if Unity can't afford pay Weta staff or find a way to keep them useful at base cost, their chances solo and with third party companies at a premium cost is greatly reduced. I suspect Unity pictured it as a clap back to Epic / Quixel, but it was more or less a pointless acquisition instead. But that's just my two cents.
