Just checking whether the usage of LinkedIn is important nowadays for getting seen within the industry.
I guess there’s not a great tag to specifically categorise this topic so I will do my best.

I can only speak for software dev, and there it definitely is.
I am not sure if recruiters for Gamedev search on there as well.

It depends a lot to be honest. I get 2 to 3 linkedin outsourcing spam requests a day, and maybe 1 legitimate person. I don't consider their LinkedIn when hiring, I don't care if they post on it, and it'll annoy me if they message me for a job there instead of applying for jobs on our careers page.
That said, as a contractor etc it's important if you want recruiters to find you and to be involved in the loud part of the industry. For us we are very local focused, so it let's you see what events we are attending, running booths at and local tech activities.
But hiring at our studio comes down to good timing, being a really good fit as a person, a healthy portfolio, and some good people recommending you.
