#is this happening because of layers? I

Hi, thanks for the video, it helps me understand what you are working with. Additive layers can be a bit confusing sometimes... Let's see if I can help you find a solution. Cool looking artwork, by the way!

I have a hunch that the drawer is going backward because the transition is overlapping for a long duration of time. Could you try moving the DrawerIdle clip backward like this screenshot? That will make the additive effect be a bit more like we would expect (I think)

#

if that doesn't work we can try a few more things...

cool, once again thanks for the video. Really helps me understand!

One more thing to try... I think I can see that while the DrawerClosingAnimation is playing, the DrawerOpeningAnimation is also still finishing blending. So try also shortening the blend time on this transition I have circled in the screenshot

It's weird it feels like the pivot point is like changing

flint fable
#

yeah... that's the confusing thing about Additive type layers.

#

Let me try reconstructing your scene myself so I can help figure out a solution. I'll be just a few minutes and then I'll get back to you.

yeah ur right, if i put it as the base layer on override it works fine

flint fable
#

nice, glad to hear it's working. Would you still like help getting the original idea working where the object can raise up independently from the drawer opening?

maybe ill just seperate all of them on different animators haha

flint fable
#

that might add complications... I'm sure there's a way to get it working on a single Animator. Your choice, though

Well basically i want to open that door box first then open the drawer then trigger the switch
But if i put the box door on the additive layer instead then that fuck ups instead haha

flint fable
#

no worries, we can get this working!

#

It's a fun problem to solve

lavish dove
#

i have it like this atm

flint fable
#

got it

#

Question for you: are you animating these in Unity or an external program like Blender or Maya?

lavish dove
#

Did it all in Unity

flint fable
#

cool, that simplifies things actually

lavish dove
#

yeah that's why i did that haha

flint fable
#

I think this would actually work better with Override layers instead of Additive. Did you try that yet?

lavish dove
#

wait i can have it all on override and it still plays the others?

#

omg i

#

yeah that works all perfect now

#

haha

flint fable
#

yay!

lavish dove
#

thanks!

flint fable
#

you're welcome. Glad we found a solution

#

if you run into more questions about animation I'll be glad to help

Thank u so much for ur help

the reason why this works using Override layers and doesn't close the cabinet door again is because of what I suggested in my first post - only having sparse keyframes (no zero keyframes on the transforms that don't move) enables things to stay where they were without moving back to the original position
