How long since you reinstalled last?

tranquil lake
#

like 2 years ago? someone had to do it for me

sly bloom
#

which Windows version?

mint crest
#

how much RAM to you have? Is it an SSD?

tranquil lake
#

I tried lxle linux, then totally dont know how that linux works, so I had to go back to windows

#

I asked someone to do it for me

sly bloom
#

Windows 7, 8, 10, 11?

tranquil lake
#

Windows 10, not sure if authentic

#

4GB of RAM!

sly bloom
#

Doesn't matter. Windows is free to use. Only need to buy it for Premium features.

#

Is it a stationary PC or a laptop?

#

is it a Mac?

tranquil lake
#

anyway, unity 2017 + vsc is perfect with it, im still loving my unity experience haha

Does it have USB 3.0 ?

tranquil lake
mint crest
#

if you can swing more RAM that would help a lot I bet.

sly bloom
#

Does it say USB on any label on the laptop?

#

usually, it says 2.0, 2.1
or 3.0 or 3.1

mint crest
#

what color is the port, USB3.0 should be blue

sly bloom
#

If you have the model number for the laptop, we can google the specs

#

usually at the bottom left or right corner of the monitor

tranquil lake
#

the usb port is black, is that it?

sly bloom
#

Probably 2.1 then.

#

So, the reason I ask, is because there is a cheap solution you can explore to increase performance

#

buying a USB memory stick, and setting it up to use ReadyBoost

#

it would act as a secondary memory

tranquil lake
sly bloom
#

Might increase CPU load, not sure if that will be significant.

sly bloom
#

There is also another alternative

tranquil lake
#

Or I think it was an OS, not sure

sly bloom
#

On my old PC which would be of similar age, I ended up using Windows Server 2008 modified as a Desktop OS. It was the only thing that finally let me play League of Legends without any lag.

tranquil lake
#

Like OS usb, not sure if Iit actually improve performance

sly bloom
#

is the HDD new?

#

cheapest thing to upgrade and carry over to new rigs

tranquil lake
sly bloom
#

ah, two things

#
  1. You have online backup of your game right?
tranquil lake
sly bloom
#

It's not as dire as 10-20 yrs ago, but still, a risk

#

This means it's probably not an SSD, and is therefore a traditional mechanical Hard-drive

#

Those are the slowest, and will slow down over time.

#

If you have local files that are important, you should get an external hard-drive.
Or just buy an SSD and get help to migrate over.

#

SSDs are not mechanical, but work on flash memory

#

very fast

#

And today very affordable.

tranquil lake
#

Yeah thanks! I already uploaded my files in gdrive before when you told me, thanks!

sly bloom
#

Very good 👍

tranquil lake

#

I have copies of my files on my PC, a backup drive, github and gdrive
