If the shader is disappearing generally it sounds more like that it's a version control issue, or something else
But it sounds kinda weird to me if your boss is running the project on a different version regularly
Generally you'd want everyone running the latest patch of the newest LTS and not upgrade/downgrade ever unnecessarily
