We have cash prizes in multiple categories, an event inside Steam itself as we have an event partnership with Valve, and a couple of surprises still to be announced 😉

Hey Me and my friends are trying to do a web game jam but we don't have enough people but are afriad to ask around as we might be competing against big pros
game jam's aren't really competitions?
Some are, depends on who's hosting and if there's prizes involved.
hey guys would someone (favorable artistly) work with me for the github gameoff on itch.io its like a gamejam ? :3
Hello everyone , we’re a team of 2 programmers looking for a 3d artist/modeller to work with on different game jams. Pls dm if interested
Hello, I'm looking to participate In a jam with a team. I'm an intermediate programmer. Dm me if you have a team set up, and need an additional programmer, or if you would like to start a team.
The jam I'm looking at is this
https://itch.io/jam/one-minute-jam
it's a jam to make a game that has one minute of gameplay, not make a game in one minute
tro
I know
that sounds very neat
How would you make a game that lasts for 1 minute without making a timer?
lots of ways, one way i could think of is to make a 2d sidecrolling platformer that moves the level with a length that would make it last a minute (think like the mario levels that automatically move)
I suppose
There are so many possibilities
microgames
bomb defusal game
1 minute escape room where the solution has to be identified by failing the game multiple times?
Yeah, it really seems like there's a lot of fun ideas you can work with in this jam
@everyone

Hello everyone. I'm a c# developer who can also do semi-advanced animations. Know more about 3d games than 2d. Never done game jams before. Looking for a team to join. I have been coding in c# for 3 years and in general for 5.
For those that have had fun and successful Game Jams in the past, what sort of Voting Criteria have you gone with, that both your developers/submitters and the voters/non-submitters have all been happy with?
This seems to be an area of contention in our previous Jams.
This is what we are looking at right now.
Hi all! I'm hosting Care Jam 2021 (starting 2nd Dec) and some of our teams are looking for programmers to join.
Here's the link for more info! Hope to see you there

Hello Gamedev people,
My name is Freddy, 24 from Germany! Currently I feel like playing games again after my work as a virtual engineer in the evening. Studied game development and artificial intelligence at university and have also made some games and prototypes.
A few of them made it here on Itch: https://freddynewton.itch.io
I would love to participate in a gamejam again with someone or produce small games together in my free time. I am mainly a Unity developer and also use the game engine at work.
It would be best to work with a 3D artist or 2D pixelartist and produce wholesome games or other games together. If a sound designer or similar people would join, that would make me very happy.
I hope this post is ok here and if someone wants to get in contact with me feel free to write me on Discord: Freddy Newton#2275

hey, so I'm doing a metroidvania game jame... and I have movement, combat, and systems for enemies all made, but I realized... I have no idea how to make a short metroidvania, never even thought about it
metroidvanias are by nature long games, I feel
yeah, they are
hard to make
yea, the only thing I can think of is to just make a sort of vertical slice of an imagined longer game
or just, a series of rooms with puzzles to show off the various game mechanics
the latter requires alot less polish
No, that would not be that fun
I have several ideas/tips if you want them
I really recommend using images to make levels as that would take a lot and I mean a lot less time than handcrafting @hazy jewel
If you want I'll link you to a video
Also how much time do you have left?
6 days
What are the powerups?
the combat, movement, and a modular enemy system are there already, just need to figure out the map
I think the powerups are going to be magic that can be used via this magic system
Ok
Also you should you use a tilemap system
I have some spells already made, using assets and some code from a project I was working on before the game jam
bit of the melee combat
I already ade the hitboxes bigger, but havent update the sprites to reflect it
I have a tilemap too, as you can see in this gif. I can use either system for the map, undecided on what I'd use in the future though
Nice
So here's the thing try and divide the map in distinct sections
So that it is easier to navigate and helps keep the game fresh
Also how many enemies are you deciding on
like how magmor caverns are completely different from phandrana drift
Also I will link you to a tutorial by brackeys on how to convert pixel art into stages as I think that would make level design a lot easier
I think if you are a bit creative with that it can save you a ton of time
so I think its going to be more like a demo, or just what would be the first area of a game
What type of game you want?
mostly light, but like
not to the point of being cutesy
I have a story in mind for a longer game, and might be able to implement a little of that into this, but I dont think I have time to do all the things I'd need to do to make that happen
I can like help you with the map and like I think you can make it in 6 days
the short of it is:
A kobold who wants to be an adventurer finds a magic book that gives them a lot of power, but is slowly taking over their mind
no, thats just some asset pack I was using to test parallaxing backgrounds
yea, kinda starts basic D&D fantasy setting, that will go into a dungeon where most of the game happens
So here is the map idea. So you have a dungeon, a castle on top and the forest and if time remains add some caves
I think it does the job of a metroid vania pretty well
hmm, yea
that could work
So, do this (if you want), add 3 unique enemies for each section and then change the color pallet of those enemies to create another set of 3 enemies that create 6 enemies for each section
Now you can interchange these enemies in certain sections to make the game a bit more diverse
That gives you 12 enemies and 1 boss to make
And for the player it is 24 enemies and 1 boss
Pretty good number of enemies
I think
What do you think @hazy jewel
?
I think thats a bit out of scope for 6 days
I dont want different enemies to just look different and follow the same pattern
I'm doing unique animations and attacks for every enemy
thats alot of pixel art, animation, ideas, and coding
Then how many enemies do you think?
Also how are you creating locks in this scenario
?
spells are the 'boss keys'
so like, you find something that teaches you fireball, and then you can use that to open a door elsewhere
And how many enemies?
or learn lightning, that lets you intereact with some puzzles
dunno, for the game jam probably just 2-3
its going to be really short at this point, but thats ok for a game jam
its really just the concept of a game that I'm going for with this
I may even just have only the slime enemy, different colors (maybe unique attacks per color) because I have an elemental weakness system in the game
can make enemies super resistant to some damage types and really weak to others
Listen I have some enemy ideas
And also if you are thinking why I am talking about enemies a lot
Its because I gave played quite a few game jam metroidvanias and without proper enemies, they feel a bit like walking simulator and the same enemy feels a bit unpolished
I understand that time limit but metroidvanias need a feeling of empowerment when you get a new ability
yea, I can understand that
I havent played many game jam games, so I dunno what common pitfalls of them are, but I have a pretty robust system built for the enemies
I can plug in animations and then I just need to plug in damage numbers, make the colliders for hitboxes, and and basically fill out a form I made with lots of stats for the enemies
Here's an idea which will save you a ton of time and is probably going to make the game feel robust
Make some generic enemies, like the slime(already there), a bat that can fly using the A* pathfinding, and a skeleton enemy which can throw bones
I believe that there is a person called vimlark who has created an asset pack containing animation for skeleton and zombie etc enemies, which you can edit to create enemies for your game
Then your three enemies can have slight very small variants who have different weaknesses
And for powerups I was thinking of 3 or 4, what do you think?
Ori?
was busy for a bit
but I mean, its not like I dont have my own ideas
I have plenty, just not things I can implement in 6 days
I've got most of what I want to do in this game jam in mind, the part I'm struggling with is getting the map made
4 days left until New Horizons Game Jam starts!

A game jam from 2021-12-31 to 2022-01-27 hosted by Zayn. This is the 1st official New Year Game Jam ! This is a Game Making Marathon where you get to make a game based on a specific theme in a limited time...
Is there a programmer out there who wishes to spend a little hobby time building a game-jam type of game with me?
I can program, animate, etc and build a game by myself... but that's boring... I am looking for a collab partner for fun new experiences and maybe learn something new.

Hey, anyone doing a game jam but completely relaxed even though there are only 3 days cause you do too many game jams?
Good Afternoon - I am looking to expand my team with interested game developers, 2D Artists, 3D artists, programmers, world builders, as well as community coordinators. This is not a position or a job offer, I am looking to build a team. I have many years of experience in all of these areas, and my partner is a professional programmer. These interested team members will be called upon to participate in game jam sessions, and it is not a requirement or an agreement that you participate. Contacting me about this means only that you are interested in the opportunity to participate in these sessions, and details concerning them or any potential future rewards for association or work will be given to you before their development for your consideration. These sessions aim to produce a fun, and eventually commercially viable game. I look forward to hearing from you - simply message me your position, or a position you would like if it is not listed and please include any examples you may have that can demonstrate your level of skill in your chosen area, for areas outside programming and game development simply tell me about why you'd be a good candidate for that position. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
cureently building a block chain game ur help can be put to good use
So glad to finally be announcing this :D https://itch.io/jam/igotw-01 Love from IGOTW
Well actually yes!

Hey everyone! Penn Game Studios is hosting a Global Game Jam site (virtually) for the 2022 Jam starting Friday, January 28, 2022!
We're welcoming all levels of game developers to come together for the 48-hour game jam, hosted by Penn Game Studios!
No game dev/jam experience necessary! Designers, developers, artists, musicians, knitters, gardeners, architects, everyone and anyone is welcome to try their hand at making a game during the GGJ. If you want to make a new game within or using the tools of an existing game you can and should! Not sold on being a full on-dev yet? You can learn many new skills and support your team by contributing ideas, playtesting, and giving moral support.
People will be able to pre-register for the event on GGJ and on Eventbrite to ensure we'll be able to track numbers. For our virtual component, we'll be running a discord server.

Wanna do a game jam in fps mode ?
Here is it!!
Speed O Shot Jam 2021
Starts very soon!
Join now - https://itch.io/jam/speed-o-shot
Any UI and 3D artist who wanna build simple game apps, I hava a game now who need some improvement.
Is "Game Jamming" something people gather to do at specific Game Jam events or are there also unofficial Game Jam sessions here in this Discord server occasionally?
I'm very new to all of this
Also if there's any advice for finding a local game dev community in my area that would be great
This discord doesn't really run any. I've only done in-person ones, Global Game Jam being one of the most popular. There's a pinned message with some links and a description in it that helps find online ones. There's a bunch of more popular online jams like 7DFPS, I'm not really sure how you distinguish them though, perhaps just by picking them up by following the right people on twitter 😄
Thanks!
When would you say someone is "ready" or has enough experience for participating in a Game Jam?
I've only been learning Unity for about a week or two now but I have a lot of programming experience
Depends on the jam, I think some are all about getting together to learn, others are more straight to the point
Only other question I have is whether they place you into teams or if you enter with your own. Or if there's multiple categories of the competition like "solo" and "team."
I haven't done any that are competitions. The ones I've done you can choose to pair up with whoever, or not at all. Some people go and look for people at the venue / meet people online. Some have team size limits. They're varied.
Oh, I thought there was some sort of competitive aspect to it. I suppose I need to find the main page(s) with info about them still.
I'm not sure where the "official" info page is about them
There is none. They are not centrally organised
By the way, I found an official Unity page for info on Game Jams.
Hopefully that helps anyone who comes here looking for it, assuming it's not already here in this channel.
Could be a useful pin
Just joined this one!
For anyone who wants to, it seems very popular and has about 500 entries so far
I'm hosting a game jam next week if anyone here is interested! We generally get over 1000 people in the jams we host, so it'll be a bit of a bigger one.
Happy new year everyone, wishing you a lovely day and the start of an amazing year full of surprises. One of them will be a special announcement for our upcoming game jam for this year NEXUS GAME JAM . Stay tuned for more info and surprises!
https://itch.io/jam/igotw-01 The indie game of the week Jam is coming up! 14th to 16th of January
@civic estuary Don't spam the channels.
Sorry
Oh interesting! Might swing by.
Do it! I'm seeing some really awesome stuff so far, even the people who haven't done jams before are making some great stuff
Making a post here to brainstorm elements of games (in general) for the Global Game Jam 2022. If you have improvements, suggestions, or want to express your own opinion, feel free!
- A player controlled element(s) of the game. The player needs to be able to do be able to do something. Maybe its controlled a character in third or first person, shooting guns and chewing bubblegum. Very important and I think should be on of the first things implemented/focused on.
- Goal(s). The player should be trying to achieve something. Communicating what that is will be key. Being able to "beat" the game is seemingly important. Do you have to navigate your avatar to a set trigger point? Collect all the things? I think this is the second thing that should be implemented/focused on.
- Adversity. Some resistance to achieving the goal. In puzzle games, its a count down timer. In the games I like its usually an opposing enemy force of hostile AI.
- Game feel. Sounds. Particle FX. Shaders. Screen shake. Rag doll physics. Make that game POP! This is "polish" level stuff, and I think it should be left to the ending phases, after the above elements are firmly in place.
I think these four elements are the core focused. I'll organize my global game jam tasks according to these four buckets of work.
@somber orchid No idea, not yet at least. I think the global game jam is going to announce what the theme is in the coming weeks.
I'm just trying to get myself capable.
End of the month. IIRC Jan 20, 2022
for 72 hours?
Ok ok ok you just got a competitor
Yeah I checked the site
Thanks and also for me steps should be
- Player Movement
- Level manager
- Enemies
- levels
- Menu
- Sfx and music
And somewhere after Enemies there should be art time
- levels
Levels? Like, plural? You must be a da vinci at this sort of stuff if that your goal, lol.
Nah, I'm goofing. Thanks for sharing your list of priorities!
I did the global game jam (GGJ) last year when I was about a month into learning unity. I'm most excited to see how far I've come in this past year.
I am a fan of level based games so my priority is to create levels after the props etc.
Yeah they are always fun
Respect. If you know that is your direction, its worth building up supporting infrastructure early to make it easy.
Yeah but I respect the crunch and the pressure of being on a time limit
But I have used this method in one of the previous game jams and that approach is as fun as this one
Ain't that the truth... I'm trying to keep my strategy simple and see where it takes me. I'm still not sure what I want to do. I think I want to be inspired by some games at my local arcade bar
Yeah maybe take some inspiration from pokemon
You're saying that because my name, aren't you?
Although retelling the Russian Revolution using mudkipz would be kind of fun.
Or something like that.
lol
^_^
I love pokemon too
I love soviets
🙋♂️ 🇩🇪
when is next gamejam
Which one are you talking about?
any
global game jam is starting later this month, there are also plenty to look for on itch.io
There are tens of game jams running constantly, check the pins
I joined the black and white game jam and now I'm stressed
Then leave jam
N o
you can do it !

Any one know how to code speed to a turn-based RPG as a championship stat value
Finding the fun juice should be right after figuring out the controls, not last.
Actually, they go together IMO
even if that means you don't have time for adding levels or an endgame.
(meaning you end up with some kind of sandbox game)
(but that's okay IMO, especially for a jam)

I like this input! Thanks for reading my message and providing feedback. I like how you think it should take priority before levels.
Okay, brainstorming game juice ideas. Flashes on hit. Sound FX, particle FX. Big, legible projectiles. Screen shake. Camera lag to emphasize movement (subtle or more obvious). Cinematics to provide the player some sort of context, if one can manage (cinemachine + timeline + audio).
I'm thinking I want to make a halo combat sim for mobile. I want to play with ai. I'm thinking (H)FSM + BT for this upcoming weekend.
what are the game jams coming up?
Global Game Jam is the big one thats in a few days.
Otherwise, you can see some jams being made on itch.io.
oh, I should try and do this game jam
Where can I sign up?
I see many global game jams, which one is it?
can't figure it out. Please help. ><
They're all the same, hence global. You sign up at a location near you, though being online this year, it's likely not in person (may be different for your location)
Are you in Paraguay, the Philippines, Spain, Puerto Rico, Russia, the UK (likely just near cornwall), Tunisia? If not, none of the locations you've screenshotted are relevant to you.
I like how you're diving into this global game jam 😉
The process is basically to sign up for a site (some are full virtual, some are full physical location, some are hybrid). There is usually a discord maintained by the site operators so you can hop on and ask more questions there. It's a good time!
oh cool 🙂 I don't mind, I prob wont do too well but I'd give it a try.
@limpid timber there's no doing "well" / "too well". It's cool to try to do your best in the given time. It was always fun. Filter jam sites by your country, and choose one if there are more. They also might have a discord where you can find teams to join, etc.

If it is in person does it mean that you have to be in person or you can participate online?
it says this on the registration page
Each site has their own organizer, so may be worth sending an email.
Thanks a lot
anyone wants to team up with me for global game jam?
I am a OK programmer, but are you a artist or a music designer?

https://itch.io/jam/game-dev-london-x-into-games-ggj22/rate/1376605 Done it 48 hour jam!
I'm hosting my first game jam, and I'm going to start off with a bang.
The goal is to make a retro PS1/N64-like platformer within a week based on a specific theme.
If you want to learn more, you can check it out here: https://itch.io/jam/platrojam3d
mini jam's coming up boiiiissss~
in germany we would say: Those who can read have a clear advantage
There's a special game jam happening in NZ next week (one that focuses on answering the question: How do we teach sustainability and having a green thumb using games?).
It's all done online, with Itch.io and Discord servers set up, but need to register here to get an invite: https://events.humanitix.com/regenerate-game-jam

why my post deleted?
Discord links are removed. Secondly, don't crosspost, you've been told this before.
Hard to decide when both topics 100% relevant to the post.. to which one to post.
Not sure how what you showed in #archived-works-in-progress is related to a game jam. Anyway, there is the right place.
is there someone who want to team up with me? i'm making a medieval adventure RPG game for about 1,5 year. also im 22.
@tall minnow This has nothing to do with game jams or Unity.
Not here? Go find another community for that stuff.
i want to participate in this
im pretty new though
and only have experience with 2d game dev
but i read somewhere that there's barely any difference in working with vr
ye very little difference
I joined!
brackeys jam coming round
yep! Wonder what the theme will be
when does it start?
it starts the 20th february to the 10th march
at 3:00 am
not sure what time zone tho
Hey,
I'm a programmer/designer looking for a team for Brackeys game jam. Check out this link to see what I've built so far http://www.niknev.com/. I prefer using Unity.
[found team]
thanks
message me if your down for gamejam. got one with prizes for the best games
Hi everybody i'm looking for a 3D artist to team up for Brackeys game jam, feel free to message me
good luck:)
personally im hoping it will be that the game is your friend or next chapter
just not identity crisis
Game is your friend is an interesting concept
it doesn’t really matter for me tho cuz I got my booster and wont be able to participate for 2 days
hi does anybody know what does brackeys theme mean "it is not real"
You can interpret a game jam theme however you want, they are intentionally vague and open ended usually to give you creative freedoms.
If somebody want to team up for brackeys game jam, I'm here. I am a programmer
Some ideas I had was stuff like:
- Dreams
- Hallucinations
- Fake walls/floors
- Game just doesn't exist?
Hi, are there any game jams where I can win a Unity Hoodie?
I have a ton of game Ideas that aren't out there, I can do the art but suck at programing what i need the system to do... how do i go about finding help that's not going to just run away with my ideas and actually help...
The only way is to hire someone. And even then, it's not guaranteed. In the end, nobody wants to work for "free", especially if the other person is just an "idea person".
Also, this channel is for game jams.
My point I want to get into the Jams wanting to find out what's all needed?
Depending on the game jam, there's sometimes communities around t hem to find teammates (like Global Game Jam, or ludum dare).
and I'm far beyond an idea, zbrush, blender, gravity, masterpiece, well any art program I can use all of them
Ok thanks Ill dig some more
If you want to get "teammates" you either have to:
- Be AMAZING at art (since you don't code)
- Pay people
Coding is really important especially since it lightens the load on all members when you can help out
I am good at the arts.... only takes me a week or so to learn a new art program. This is some zbrush works
I mean I am studying the hell out of everything I can find on Unity and vr set ups and VrChat things... and when I finished the one above I rolled him out at 7k poly
This is a cartoon I tryed to make out of unity assets but the cencorships shut me down...
I guess all and all I'm trying to find a crew to be part of... and strat doing this for a living...
Thanks
This channel is for game jams. If you're looking for people to make a non game jam game with, then use the forums for collaborations. #📖┃code-of-conduct
Also, don't crosspost.
ok
Hey is anyone here a 2d pixel artist? I am working on a game jam the brackeys game jam that is running until the 27th and our team is complete except our artist just left us due to personal reasons. Anyone here looking to Jam? I can do art
When do i know i am ready for a game jam
You are always ready for a game jam
But I think you should have made at least 3 games before
when you're familiar with making multiple games, ideally different types e.g. 1 shooter, 1 platformer, 1 fighting, etc.
Do you have any minigames suggestions for learning purpeses
What I did when I was learning was just making games based off themes in game jams that already happened
Can anyone test my game which i am making for a game jam
Sure

Ayyy, we got featured by itch! Almost 200 people joined, and there's still 2 weeks to go 😁
Anybody wants to join with me in Ludum Dare 50? It starts Sunday and I need an artist (I'm the programmer)
anyone know a community where i can find teammates for jams?
probably the page of the jam on itch
I probably should have looked at this before I started Ludum Dare 50 and gotten some teammates! =)
Though I did enter the competition here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/undying-flames
I'd love to support other creators, so drop your link and I'll give a rating / feedback! =)
I hope everyone who's done Ludum Dare 50 this year has enjoyed themselves!
Ludum Dare has made me nocturnal.
hey, i've got a submission for ludum dare, if anyone wanted to give it a play and dm me feedback before the jam ends, it'd be greatly appreciated
https://cosmocorner.itch.io/lone-bastion
the password is "Ludum50"
hey dude wanted to give some small feedback if it can be used at all, it took me 1mn to understand what was going on when i started
you should explain you use wasd to move and what to shoot blabla bla
thanks
Did you play the tutorial?
@hoary ruin re: lone-bastion
- Great baseline visuals and sound!
- You probably don't have enough time to integrate the tutorial into the main gameplay loop, but that would have been more convenient. That way you could reveal each mechanic one at a time in context.
- I lost, but have no idea why. I seem to have taken down everyone in the red corridor but still got the thump thump thump... game over.
- Ok so I replayed to try and understand why I lost. I see that the other lanes are initiated after a bit of time. The tutorial mentions this, but doesn't talk about how to switch between lanes. In game it shows 1,2,3 but I had no context when that popped up the first time.
- This webgl version has the minimap cutoff on the left side, probably one of the reasons I didn't notice.
6.The minimap and position mechanic is confusing for the first couple play throughs. I think that's primarily because of the limited vision. I have no orientation within the space. Maybe reveal the map to start with, then create the fog of war?
7. I like having different weapons, but it's not clear why those are different in each lane. Red lane is too slow, try and ramp that up so it feels more responsive. Blue and green are in a pretty decent place, but rarely hurts to juice things up a bit.
8. It seems the game is trying to push me towards a fast clear in one lane then hop to another, but the tools I'm given, particularly with very limited vision force me into a pretty slow play style.
9. The gates fall so fast I don't see much reason for the shield indicators, when you swap over the weapons aren't really strong enough to clear the attackers off the gate.
10. I appreciate the guaranteed eventual death to infinite space invaders, but I'd like to feel I've accomplished "something". Maybe if I clear a lane it blocks their spawning for 15seconds so I can quickly go clear off the other lanes. Not sure how but the main ask is to make me believe I at least had a chance!
Overall the space shooter genre is pushing me towards wanting faster paced action and a more responsive player character. I think you've got all the elements there, just tweak the numbers to hone in on a more fluid player experience.

Unless there's explicit rules, anything goes.
hey everyone, I’m trying to round up a team to compete in game jams, it is unpaid and we would do it for experience and practice working in a team setting, and mostly just having a good time and meeting new people. Any skill level/skill set is appreciated, I’m a beginner myself and just want to get involved in game jams. Please dm me if interested!!
wot games
no idea yet, that’s something we would discuss as a team. but generally probably very short games for now and games that would help us build up our dev/art/sound skills
rn we have about 6 people!
I can add you to our group dm if you’re interested

@nocturne pecan I would either Switch the movement rotation to the Q and E key for UX or use traditional wasd for movement and aim with the mouse.

Anyone doing the gamedevtv game jam on the 20th.
I don't think I will have time but I will recommend it to anyone
We are gathering a team. A 10 day jam will be a great way to pickup some new skills from fellow teammates.
Ya I'm looking at doing the game jam I know very little but I think I know enough to get by on a game Jam
What all do you do?
I've only been learning trying to find my place. I've been mainly focusing on programming. So far level design has been my favorite. I'm currently working on a 2d platformer.
would you like to join in with us
I would loved to im still very inexperienced, and wanna learn more.
I heard game jams are a good place to learn
@rapid walrus Check the pins here for jam locations
Jams with established communities are a good way to find a team to work with
I am still learning programming and level design basics, in 6 months or so I maybe participate in one
this is the game jam https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2022. I think you should join coz every participant is getting one free course.
ty i might give it a shot

Feel free to reach out to me in private or email gamejam@myappfree.com
I am still not going to be able to take part but good luck
Can I participate in your team?
If its not programming, i maybe do something
But im to new to code
My idea was to assign you to one of more experieced members based whatever you chose to learn. But now I am thinking since full details are not out yet let's wait a lil. If the jam asks for shorter teams then it will be hard to part ways after interacting for weeks.
Programing is no sweat but you can start with the basic foundations on unity learn. Try visual scripting with bolt after you have explored the engine and asset creation workflows.
I did a 7 hours unity tutorial already, i know kind of the basics
Is bolt free?
Yes its now included in the editor. Install from the unity registry in the package manager.
I will learn when i can
Maybe in a week i will know more
The jam only starts in 17 days
what jam?
Tv
link?
.
I am not American, so my playtime is probably different from most of other people
I am in GMT+1
can you join even if your not in italy (:
I will maybe focus first on C#
Brackeys youtube is a good place to start then.
I already have seen a tutorial
I have seen free code camp.org 7 hour tutorial, but i think it is not enough to a gamejam
7 hour...
yeah they are good if you work along with them just like unituy learn has pathways devided
I have seen a lot of GMTK so game design i am more or less
Art(i dont know if i can do this but) i have a friend that might be good at pixel art and i might ask him to do 1 or 2 things
Level design maybe too
Ya I learned most of my stuff threw unity learn and I go back to the games I made threw unity learn to check code and use it on games using now
a thing that i didn't understand(i am not have English as my primary language), did you say that if the jam is open to big themes, there is a chance that i can participate on your team?
Unfortunately not on this istance of the Jam, but we'll have more in the future without geo restrictions!
Yes I meant that what if we make a team of 10 and then rules state you can't have more than 5. I would feel awful to part way with the other five.
No problem
Thank you very much
Anyone looking for a programmer to join their team?
i remembered now about the game music
If i go to the team i might help with that
check out the forum for that
https://forum.unity.com/#commercial-and-collaborative-work.45
if you guys dont already know about it https://itch.io/jam/world-building-challenge-ii-
here the game is made for scorespace jam
@grim shard if you expect involvement to be only 2-3 days then it might be simpler to just ask questions about what you don't get, otherwise it'd probably take 1-2 days for someone else to understand what you wrote on your own
Depends on who bites, some people prefer taking the time to learn the context of the project and before working out how to move forward, this may even improve synergy to the original vision. Both approaches work, depends on who is willing to get on board and ultimately, what you are looking for.
@grim shard Definitely does not belong here. This channel is only can be used for seeking collaborators for game jams and other jam related things.
I made a game for the Mini Jam 106, I hope you like it. https://odiwa.itch.io/water-frog-and-the-journey-to-the-pond

Gamedev.tv game jam just started and runs for another week I think.
thanks ill check it out
Should I do my first game jam on my own or with a group?
Depends on you and your preference, everyones different
If I was trying to find a group for the jam, how can I find some? (I have no game dev friends lol)
A lot of game jams, at least well organised ones, have a dedicated discord or forum which have sections where you can find a team for the jam
I see. Thank you!
Im looking for someone as well
Ah well I'm not currently looking, as I am very busy with school 😅
However, I have 1 year of Unity and Blender experience, and I'm capable of animating, modeling, making graphics, and I mostly focus on programming, so if you'd like to partner in the future I'm down!
Hi, I need someone to enlighten me to help solve a problem
I'm creating a game for a Game Jam. And in this game you can control 3 characters, you can move one at each time, to move another you need to press a button to change character (This part I already managed on how to do it and it's all done)
The problem that I'm having at the moment is... In the game idea, only character A can push objects in the scenario. Characters B and C cannot push objects!
But I'm not able to think/apply this idea in Unity. I've been researching solutions for at least 2h and so far I haven't figured out what can I do. That's why I'm coming here to get some help..
Any ideas? Thankss
https://media.giphy.com/media/OCH2p25qrw0CWuuMaD/giphy.gif
Small gif showing my problem... Only the red character must move the block. (Note: The green characters get through the block because some coding I was trying without success)
they all have rigidbodies?
Yes. RB and Box Colliders on all 3 characters + block
What happens if you set the blue character’s mass really low
It might change something in theory, but it also might not change anything. Worth a shot
Kinda solved it. Now the blue character cannot push the block. But can't push the other characters either.
I was thinking of adding jumping soon to the prototype too.. I imagine having a low mass would mess up the jump too right?
More gravity >:)))
I give a few more tries for a few hours..
In the end I just set the gravity to 100. Set an trigger that activates when the red character is close. The trigger changes the gravity to 1... Then when the red character leaves the gravity come back to 100
It solved the problem.. Kinda... It has a 'bug' that when the red character is close to the rock, the other 2 characters can now push it
I have never participated in a game jam but why do you start now that you don't even know what the theme of the Jam could be?
The game jam is already runing for a few days... It is a 10 days game jam but I only got the time to participate today and at this weekend
https://itch.io/jam/gamedevtv-jam-2022
English is not my native english.. I think I probably said something that implied that the Jam had already started.

sorry i thought it was for GMTK Game Jam 2022
I am searching to join a team for a one week ore more
I could be a game designer/ level designer/ music composer
I know how to programe c# and unity, but i am still learning some stuff
If you use velocity change as the force mode for AddForce, or use rb.velocity instead of AddForce for the jump, it will ignore mass. I think that gravity relies on gravity scale and doesn’t care about the mass of an object so fall speed shouldn’t be an issue.
If you have Unity for 3DS or Switch, you should join this jam!

That has near zero information about it.
Mine as well tape a piece of paper to a random electrical pole that just says game jam on it.
You can only use pixel art, but other than that it is a pretty generic game jam.
If you make a 3D game, you can use voxel art.

Saudi Game Jam
Hello we are on the 3rd day of this game jam which lasts until July 10th https://itch.io/jam/retrograde-jam-3 The game is a 2D side-scroller space shooter. We have 2 programmers, 2 musicians, a level designer, and 2 pixel artists. I'm a professional web developer of 15 years mostly web dev but have shipped a commercial iOS game 10 years ago. This is my first game jam to try and get back into game dev. I have full-time commitment through the end of the game jam. Our other programmer just graduated from college with a bachelor's in game development. We're looking for another Unity programmer or two to help us out, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned so we can learn and have fun! Artists are also welcome! I've uploaded a small taste of where we're at (the background and SFX are placeholders, we also have powerups and other enemy types not shown here, plus a sketched level design). If you're interested please DM me.

I want to participate in GMTK
In desperate need of a visual artist, especially one with animation experience (preferably in pixel art), for the GMTK Game Jam 2022. Hit me up if you are looking for a small team to join. So far, we have two coders, one game designer (with technical experience in Unity), and one musician. We also have one pixel artist, who has very limited experience making tilesets.
todays the big day 🙂
gee ehm tee kay
Won't be participating this year, just started learning. Hopefully next year I can participate. Will be excited to watch however.
Collab as motivator/idea - helper/tester/kinda like a mascot.
GMTK game jam is coming, and many of you would be taking part in it. I am actually learning the engine rn.If you guys are forming a team or solo, add me as a GUEST memeber(no credit)
It will be a user POV from my side might be helpful in any regard to pro like you and for me a experience of gamedev.
Please send me group links.
Good luck to all.
This is a great idea.
I would love to be someone's waterboy as well to get some experience.
It doesn't appear as if there's any channel for .. talking about streams? but I'm streaming my development on this game jam if anyone wants to tune in. This is my first jam.. I'm pretty pumped. 😄 😄

That sounds very rng based

I'm streaming (quiet-mode) if you wanna snoop.. for a bit, anyway! I was debating a fog of war thing but.. that might be a lot to bite off at this stage of the game. 🙂 https://www.twitch.tv/chrisdanek
