I think it's to motivate players otherwise they may think "I'm never unlocking this" and maybe leave or stop playing the game

The progress bar isn't linear (I assume it's logarithmic).
This works decently well if players are still gaining time node multipliers and buying generators. (Most players?)
It is very misleading if your income is essentially static.
Not sure what the best approach is 🤷.
