Almost every ad I get on the game and others alike opens a link to their app google store page. When I get them playing on Google Play Games, the game crashes with this message.

When you see ads, if you do not click on the X or the fast-forwarding icon (⏩) when they appear, the ad will take you out of the game.

Yes, some now take you too even if you do, started less than 2 weeks ago

Windows laptop. GPG is the google store's windows version for games. Other games there allow this to happen, the devs might need to accept some condition or activate some option, idk
