In the beta (Android, 39_44, OS 16/API 36), there are some upgrades that are available and purchasable before the thing they upgrade is unlocked. For example, "Genome Mapping" is Emergent Age x1.25, but it is not dependent upon Emergent Age. Also, Water-Tight Epidermis (Tetrapod x10) is purchasable before purchasing the first Tetrapod, and "Five-Fingered Hand" (Ape x555) is available before getting the first Ape. Not sure if this is intentional as a tease for what's to come, or a dependency error.
To reproduce, restart Reality, then buy generators and upgrades as usual. Don't buy Tetrapod, but see that Water-Tight Epidermis is buyable before that. Same for the others.
