I'm not sure if this is an issue with the game or steam, but when I got onto the game for the new update, it backtracked all of my data to a week ago, which ended up being a lot! I am quite disappointed, but if there is nothing I can do, I guess I'll just leave it.

Have you tried using the inbuilt "Save Restore" feature ?
Do let me know if that doesnt help you restore your progress
