Not sure how long this has been going on for, started all the researches about an hour ago after not opening Beyond for several days. Tried restarting the game and they're still going fast.

Waited for the three hour one to finish and restarted it. It's still going double time.
Started a boost and now is going triple even though it's below 16 hours left.

Not a bug, you have completed the requirements for the permanent x2 boost, so it runs double time whenever the game is open. Not sure if it also counts double time when offline.
