Idk about the sun part, but I think the Extinction and New life animations are reversed. Whenever I activated the Extinction, the animation initially showed error signs, but then the Earth looked kinda good. And when I bought the new life form, the Earth looked destroyed.

Maybe after the Big Sun thing, every animations happens earlier by 1 event, so you're basically seeing the previous event you have triggered
