When I went to the Philosophy event, the colored backgrounds disappeared, showing only the purple background.

Leaving and re-entering didn't fix it either.

Leaving and re-entering the event won't fix it, but closing and reopening the game will.

I had the same issue when I was playing the Money event. Along with the background going plain, the nanobots would also not function, the Beyond link icon would disappear and the Meso valley icon would display rank 23, which you can see in the above screenshot too.
I don't know what triggered it, it was mostly random. But for me it only happened whenever I was switching rapidly between the exploration event to Meso, Beyond or Main Sim. (although I've heard from others that for them it has happened when they just opened the game too)
