If you just started, thats how it is. You need the associated upgrades to boost each dino's tick speed and how much they earn

Otherwise you have to tap the green symbol above the blue 'buy' symbol, or in the list you tap the portrait when its green

The upgrades just automate it

But once you start gaining Mutagen and Evolutionary components from buying more dinos, you can automate them.

So, completing those missions above will get you Mutagen and Evolutionary Cards.

Once you get a certain amount of cards for certain dinos, you can automate them.

It's fossils so just upgrade your dinos and it should go by faster.

Really if a dino makes atleast 1K per tap then you only have to tap it 50 times (if my math is correct >->)

So buy a few more Orniths to complete your first quest above.

That way you'll get more resources to automate dinos as well as more fossils per tap.
