it's less resource intensive on the tech tree screen since it doesn't have to render all the random things ambling around, but on the stone age screen, you can zoom in to have it be a much bigger target for tapping which is convenient

It depends largely on your system and the interrupt in ms that you set for your script if that's how it works.
At any rate, it requires testing to see what is truly the most effective for your system and script.
typically it ranges between 20-80ms
You can make your own script with something easily accessible like autho hot key or use some other script you find, my favorite is NIAutoclicker.

Ok, let me make an example.
Let's say you set the delay to 1ms for autoclicking. In theory that would be the fastest, since that's 1000 clicks per second, but that's limited by your hardware/software.
It takes some tinkering to see what you actual highest clicks per second can be depending on your system and setup.
Sometimes higher millisecond delays can lead to better performance.
For example, a 20ms delay could perform better than a 1ms delay even though 1ms should peform better in theory.
